1. A1M: a heme and radical binding protein. A study on structure, function and mechanisms
Abstract : This thesis describes functional and structural studies of the human protein α1-microglobulin (A1M), an evolutionarily well-conserved 26 kDa plasma and tissue protein mainly synthesized in the liver. A1M belongs to the lipocalin protein family. Lipocalins share a very similar structur, an 8-stranded β-barrel forming a hydrophobic pocket. READ MORE

2. Radiation exposure of human populations in villages in Russia and Belarus affected by fallout from the Chernobyl reactor
Abstract : A quarter of a century has elapsed since the catastrophe at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl. The radioactive fallout affected all the European countries and most severely the three countries of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. READ MORE

3. Between Daring and Deliberating : 3G as a Sustainability Issue in Swedish Spatial Planning
Abstract : The thesis shows how different aspects of sustainable development have been handled or not handled in the third generation infrastructure development in Sweden. The difference between the design of the 3G development – emphazising competition, growth and regional access, based on a strong technological optimism - and the implementation, as the roll out struck the landscape, including the non-handled radiation issue and the legal changes in order to facilitate the roll out, is discussed and analyzed. 4. Maxillofacial cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) : aspetcs on optimisation
READ MORE

5. Development and characterization of sensitive, energy-independent solid-state photon dosemeters with high spatial and temporal resolution. Applications in clinical radiology and radiation protection
Abstract : AbstractModern medicine and health care rely on a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and methods that involve ionizing radiation. To guarantee quality and the safety of patients and staff, advanced radiation detectors and dosemeters are needed that have low energy and operate with directional independence for X-ray and γ-ray photons.
