  2. 2. Early Prostate Cancer, On prognostic markers and predictors of treatment outcome after radical prostatectomy

    Author : Ali Khatami; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Prostate cancer; PSA doubling time; Active surveillanceradical; Radical prostatectomy; Angiogenesis; Ki-67;

    Abstract : The incidence of prostate cancer (PC) has increased by 4.6% annually in Sweden during the past ten years. Today?s clinically used prognostic markers are not accurate enough to separate the potentially life-threatening tumours from the insignificant ones in 50-80% of newly diagnosed PCs. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quality of Life and Functional Outcomes in Men with Localized Prostate Cancer

    Abstract : Quality-of-life and functional outcomes are important in the choice of treatment for men with localized prostate cancer. These issues were investigated in the present thesis. All living 400 men randomized to radical prostatectomy or watchful waiting from 1989 to 1999 in the Scandinavian Prostate Cancer Group Number 4 (SPCG-4) were included. READ MORE

  4. 4. Inguinal Hernia after Urologic Surgery in Males with Special Reference to Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy. A Clinical, Epidemiological and Methodological Study

    Author : Johan Stranne; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Prostate cancer; inguinal hernia; radical retropubic prostatectomy; Complication;

    Abstract : Background and aims: In 1996 the first report indicating that inguinal hernia (IH) was a complication to radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP) was published. The main aims of this thesis were to further establish this relation, to establish the background incidence of IH in men not subjected to surgery, to identify risk factors for postoperative IH occurrence and to investigate whether postoperative IH is a complication also after other types of surgery performed through a lower midline incision. 5. 5. Treatment of early prostate cancer - reducing side effects without jeopardizing cure

    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; incontinence; prostate cancer; radical prostatectomy; recurrence;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to gain further knowledge of how surgical choices affect the outcome for patients undergoing radical prostatectomy for early prostate cancer including preoperative evaluation and long-term prognosis after surgery. Within the non-randomized Laparoscopic Prostatectomy Robot Open trial, comparing the outcomes between open and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, we evaluated the effect of preservation of the neurovascular bundles on postoperative incontinence (paper I), and recurrence of prostate cancer (paper II).
