  1. 1. Radiofrequency fields : exposure, dose and health

    Author : Jonna Wilén; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electromagnetic fields; SAR; Specific Absorption; subjective symptoms;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge of relevant exposure parameters when discussing possible health implication from exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF), especially effects that might occur at non-thermal levels.In this thesis an effort is made to broaden the exposure assessment and to take the exposure time into account and combine it with the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and the field parameters (electric and magnetic field strength) to approach a dose concept. 2. 2. Characterization of the MRI patient exposure environment and exposure assessment methods for magnetic fields in MRI scanners

    Author : Jennifer Frankel; Jonna Wilén; Anders Garpebring; Johan Olsrud; Peter Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electromagnetic fields; exposure assessment; magnetic resonance imaging; switched gradient fields; radiofrequency fields; exposure metrics; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become one of the most common imaging modalities available in modern medicine, and it is an indispensable diagnostic tool thanks to the unparalleled soft-tissue contrast and high image resolution. It is also a unique exposure environment consisting of a complex mix of magnetic fields. READ MORE

  3. 3. Idiopathic environmental intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields : physiological and psychological aspects

    Author : Amanda Johansson; Lena Hillert; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : electrical hypersensitivity; EHS; mobile phone; MP; heart rate variability; HRV; provocation study; radiofrequency field; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to increase the knowledge on people with symptoms attributed to electromagnetic fields (EMF) by investigating the effects of EMF exposure and by additional description of the heterogeneous group of people reporting EMF-related symptoms. The effect of mobile phone (MP)-like radio frequency (RF) fields on symptoms, autonomic nervous system (ANS) parameters, short-term memory, and reaction time in persons with MP-related symptoms (MP participants) was investigated in a provocation study. 4. 4. Health symptoms and potential effects on the blood-brain and blood-cerebrospinal fluid barriers associated with use of wireless telephones

    Author : Fredrik Söderqvist; Lennart Hardell; David Carpenter; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : radiofrequency fields; mobile telephone; DECT-telephone; cordless telephone; children; adolescents; well-being; choroid plexus; biomarkers; S100B; transthyretin; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : Recent years have seen a rapid increase in the use of wireless telephones, yet little systematic data exist on the actual use of such devices in the general population. Mobile and cordless telephones emit radiofrequency fields (RF) raising concern about possible adverse health effects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Plane wave electromagnetic measurements for imaging fracture zones

    Author : Lena Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; Electromagnetic Measurements Fracture Zones; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : Electromagnetic fields from distant radio transmitters interact with the resistivity structures in the earth. They can be regarded as plane-wave fields since their penetration depth is much smaller than their wavelength. READ MORE
