  1. 1. Meniscal Tear - A Feature of Osteoarthritis

    Author : Martin Englund; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatologi; ortopedi; Kirurgi; traumatology; orthopaedics; Surgery; symptoms; risk factors; radiography; osteoarthritis; meniscectomy; Epidemiology; knee injury;

    Abstract : Meniscectomy is recognized as an important risk factor for the development of knee osteoarthritis (OA), a disease that traditionally has been considered as a simple "wear and tear" phenomenon. However, despite numerous reports, little evidence has been presented that a limited meniscal resection, compared with a more extensive resection, reduces the risk of OA by preserving meniscal function. 2. 2. Radiological methods in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis

    Author : Tomas Söderman; Adel Shalabi; Anders Sundin; Suzanne Werner; Marie-Louise Wretling; Seppo Koskinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; Cervical spine; Radiography; Computed tomography; Magnetic resonance imaging; ACL reconstruction; Knee laxity; Long-term evaluation; Osteoarthritis; KOOS; SF-36; Tegners Activity Scale; IKDC; Quality of life; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : The dissertation's theme is the critical role of radiology when evaluating two different groups of patients. Firstly, patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) of the cervical spine were studied to evaluate upper spine instability with dynamic computed tomography (CT). READ MORE

  3. 3. Developing knee joint osteoarthritis: Clinical, radiographical and biochemical features

    Author : Ingemar Petersson; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone markers; cartilage markers; WOMAC; SF-36; function; health status quality-of-life; radiography; epidemiology; knee pain; Knee joint; osteoarthritis; bone scan; Skeleton; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this project was to study clinical, radiographical and biochemical features of developing, symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) prospectively in individuals aged 35-54 from the general population. A questionnaire to a random sample of 2 000 individuals in the district of Laholm, Sweden, identified 279 individuals (15% of the population) with chronic (>3 months) knee pain. READ MORE

  4. 4. Epidemiology of osteoarthritis in Sweden. Register and cohort studies on prevalence and mortality

    Author : Aleksandra Turkiewicz; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epidemiology; Osteoarthritis; Knee; Hip; Radiography; Mortality; Registers; Missing data;

    Abstract : Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and often causes pain and functional impairment. Despite its high burden on society, knowledge about the occurrence of OA and its associated mortality is sparse. READ MORE

  5. 5. Osteoarthritis. Epidemiologic and genetic aspects

    Author : Jonas Franklin; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; body mass index; knee; hip; epidemiology; Osteoarthritis; occupation; hip fracture; inheritance; natural history;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to (I) assess the association between body mass index (BMI) and total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR) due to osteoarthritis (OA), (II) assess the association between the mechanical load of work and THR and TKR due to OA, (III) evaluate the natural history of radiographic hip OA with regards to THR and hip fracture, (IV) to determine the prevalence of radiographic OA in patients with hip fracture, and (V) to examine and compare the inheritance patterns of THR for OA and hip fracture. OA was previously regarded as a consequence of the wear and tear the joint is subjected to during one’s lifetime. READ MORE
