21. Hepatic and Peritoneal Colorectal Metastases : Aspects of Prognosis and Treatment
Abstract : Although two-thirds of colorectal cancer patients are cured by surgery, approximately 50% of the patients with this disease develop locally recurrent or distant metastases during the course of their illness. The aim of this study was to identify metastatic sites associated with poor prognosis in rectal cancer and then to investigate methods that can prevent the development and growth of metastases and optimise uptake of drugs at these sites in animal models. 22. Human cytokeratins : their use as targets in cancer management
Abstract : Cytokeratins, biochemically related to intermediate filaments (IF), form an intracellular network of filaments which contributes to the mechanical stabilizing of the cell. 19 individual polypeptides, divided into two groups, constitute the cytokeratin family. READ MORE

23. Strategies to improve cancer radioimmunotargeting
Abstract : Radioimmunotherapy (RIT) and radioimmunolocalisation (RIL) are developing and promising technologies to diagnose and treat tumours by use of radiolabelled antibodies targeting tumour specific antigens. The major reason why RIL and RIT not are efficient enough, is the comparatively low accumulation of radiolabelled antibodies in the tumours. READ MORE

24. Improving radioimmunotargeting of tumors : the impact of extracorporeal immunoadsorption and preload in rats
Abstract : In radioimmunotherapy of tumors, uptake of the monoclonal antibody (MAb) used is often too low in relation to its uptake in normal tissues. The purpose of these studies was to improve experimental tumor radioimmunotargeting with (a) extracorporeal immunoadsorption (ECIA), where excess of radiolabeled MAbs circulating in blood is removed, (b) or by preload with unlabeled MAb prior to injection of radiolabeled MAb, (c) or by a combination of these. 25. Inhibition of PDGF receptor signaling in tumor stroma : Effects on interstitial hypertension, drug uptake and therapeutic response
Abstract : The role of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) in malignancies involves both autocrine and paracrine stimulation of cells within the tumor. The interstitial fluid pressure (IFP) is one of the forces that govern the transvascular flow of fluids. READ MORE
