  1. 1. Blue-green stormwater systems for citywide flood mitigation : Monitoring, conceptualization, modeling, and evaluation

    Author : Salar Haghighatafshar; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; blue-green measures; drainage system; flooding; flood mitigation; hydrodynamic modeling; rainfall-runoff; stormwater;

    Abstract : Considering the growth in urbanization, leading to an increase in impervious surfaces, and the changing climate, enhancing the intensity and frequency of rainfall events, existing urban drainage networks—separate or combined sewer systems—are presumed to face substantially elevated hydraulic loads, causing pluvial floods in urban areas. There are several ways to address these challenges. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modeling stormwater transport through unsaturated green roof substrates

    Author : Kaj Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; modeling; Lattice Boltzmann; porous media; CFD; saturation; multiphase; Green roofs;

    Abstract : In recent decades there has been an increase in research regarding green roofs and similar technologies. This increased interest is driven by the requirements of urban development and its effects both on humans and the environment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of Sea Surface Temperature on Rainfall and Runof in Northeastern South America: Analysis and Modeling

    Author : Cintia Bertacchi Uvo; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; kartografi; marklära; geomorfologi; Fysisk geografi; climatology; pedology; cartography; Physical geography; geomorphology; sea surface temperature; rainfall-runoff; Amazonia; precipitation; Northeast Brazil; klimatologi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi; Hydrogeology; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi;

    Abstract : This work represents an amalgam of a group of studies with the purpose of understanding the influence of the Pacific and Atlantic sea surface temperature on precipitation and river discharge in Northeastern South America. Sea surface temperature is a good representative of phenomena such as ENSO that, in turn, cause worldwide climate variability. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hydrological modeling as a tool for sustainable water resources management: a case study of the Awash River Basin

    Author : Selome M. Tessema; Berit Balfors; Ulla Mörtberg; Shimelis Gebriye Setegn; Steve W. Lyon; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrological characteristics; Distributed hydrological modeling; Rainfall-runoff correlation; Streamflow prediction; Sustainable water management; Awash River Basin; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : The growing pressure on the world‘s fresh water resources is enforced by population growth that leads to conflicts between demands for different purposes. A main concern on water use is the conflict between the environment and other purposes like hydropower, irrigation for agriculture and domestic and industry water supply, where total flows are diverted without releasing water for ecological conservation. Abstract : Flooding is of great concern world-wide, causing damage to infrastructure, property and loss of life. Low-income countries, in particular, can be negatively affected by flood events due to their inherent vulnerabilities. Moreover, data to perform studies for flood risk management in low-income regions are often scarce or lacking sufficient quality. READ MORE
