  1. 1. Highway Traffic State Estimation and Short-term Prediction

    Author : Andreas Allström; Jan Lundgren; Clas Rydergren; Balázs Adam Kulcsár; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Traffic congestion is increasing in almost all large cities, leading to a number of negative effects such as pollution and delays. However, building new roads is not a feasible solution. Instead, the use of the existing road network has to be optimized, together with a shift towards more sustainable transport modes. READ MORE

  2. 2. On Thermomechanical Fatigue of Single-Crystal Superalloys

    Author : Mikael Segersäll; Johan Moverare; Jonathan Cormier; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Thanks to their excellent mechanical and chemical properties at temperatures up to 1000 °C, nickel-based superalloys are used in critical components in high-temperature applications such as gas turbines and aero engines. One of the most critical components in a gas turbine is the turbine blade, and to improve the creep and fatigue properties of this component, it is sometimes cast in single-crystal form rather than in the more conventional poly-crystalline form. 3. 3. Self-Control, Financial Well-Being, and Motivated Reasoning : Essays in Behavioral Finance

    Author : Camilla Strömbäck; Ali M. Ahmed; Gustav Tinghög; Daniel Västfjäll; Marcus Selart; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Dual-process theory; Self-control; Financial behavior; Financial well-being; Affective forecasting; Motivated reasoning;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to improve our understanding of how individual differences in intuitive and analytic decision making are associated with people’s behavior as well as their well-being. The first three essays investigate, in turn, how self-control—a typical System 2 driven ability—correlates with financial behavior, financial well-being, and affective forecasting ability. READ MORE

  4. 4. Words Don’t Come Easy : Decoding and Reading Comprehension Difficulties in Adolescents with Intellectual Disability

    Abstract : This dissertation presents research in the development and use of a multi-modal visual and haptic virtual model in higher education. The model, named Chemical Force Feedback (CFF), represents molecular recognition through the example of protein-ligand docking, and enables students to simultaneously see and feel representations of the protein and ligand molecules and their force interactions.
