    Author : Yevgen Ryeznik; Warwick Tucker; Andrew Hooker; Franz König; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optimal designs; optimal adaptive designs; randomization in clinical trials; restricted randomization; adaptive randomization; unequal cost; allocation ratio preserving randomization procedures; heterogeneous costs; multi-arm clinical trials; randomization-based inference; unequal allocation; Tillämpad matematik och statistik; Applied Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : In this Ph.D. thesis, we investigate how to optimize the design of clinical trials by constructing optimal adaptive designs, and how to implement the design by adaptive randomization. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis examines philosophical controversies surrounding the evaluation of medical treatments, with a focus on the evidential roles of randomised trials and mechanisms in Evidence-Based Medicine. Current 'best practice' usually involves excluding non-randomised trial evidence from systematic reviews in cases where randomised trials are available for inclusion in the reviews. READ MORE

    Abstract : Introduction: Depression in adolescents and young adults is an increasing global health concern and available treatments are not convincingly effective. It is therefore important to develop and test novel treatments to improve treatment outcomes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Daily life after stroke in elderly people. Evaluation of stroke unit care focusing on daily activities, resource use and costs, assistive devices and health-related quality of life

    Author : Gunilla Gosman-Hedström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Stroke unit; randomization; longitudinal study; resource use and cost; informal care; elderly; occupational therapy; daily activities; Functional Independence Measure; construct validity; assistive devices; housing modifications; health-related quality of life;

    Abstract : Aims: The overall aims of this thesis were: a) to compare stroke unit (SU) care and its continuum with care on general wards (GW) for elderly patients, concerning resource use and costs for care and rehabilitation focusing on assistive technology in a one-year follow-up and, b) to explore the use and cost of assistive devices (ADs), ability in daily activities and self-rated health-related quality of life (HRQL) longitudinally.Methods: Two hundred and forty-nine persons >70 years were followed in a randomized, prospective study evaluating SU care after acute stroke. 5. 5. Reactive Concurrent Data Structures and Algorithms for Synchronization

    Author : Phuong Ha; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-blocking; reactive; multi-word atomic primitives; online algorithms; shared memory; concurrent data structures; distributed data structures; randomization; online financial problems; synchronization; spin-locks;

    Abstract : Parallelism plays a significant role in high-performance computing systems, from large clusters of computers to chip-multithreading (CMT) processors. Performance of the parallel systems comes not only from concurrently runningmore processing hardware but also from utilizing the hardware efficiently. READ MORE
