  1. 1. Localized Prostate Cancer : Results From a Randomized Clinical Trial

    Author : Anna Bill-Axelson; Lars Holmberg; Bo Johan Norlén; Peter Wiklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; prostate cancer; localized; randomized; biopsies; interviews; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : The aims of the thesis were to• explore whether radical prostatectomy is beneficial compared with watchful waiting in survival and disease progression• find possible effect modifiers• evaluate a protocol of multiple biopsies and investigate if men with previous benign prostate biopsies are a group at risk for later prostate cancer• inquire into patients’ and clinicians’ experiences of randomization in order to find out what made this study possible to conduct, and thereby contribute to improve randomization in the futureThe background material was a large randomized clinical trial, the Scandinavian Prostatic Cancer Group Study Number 4, or SPCG-4, which was open for inclusion from February 1989 through December 1999. It comprised 695 men in Sweden, Finland and Iceland who had localized prostate cancer and were randomized to either radical prostatectomy or watchful waiting. READ MORE

  2. 2. On New Implants - The results of five prospective, randomized RSA trials with aspects on phased introduction and continuous migration

    Author : Mats Molt; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; New total knee arthroplasty; TKA; RSA; randomized; prospective; prediction; continuously migrating; safety; stability CR; PS; PF; PA; short stem; tourniquet;

    Abstract : A concern that arises with any change in design or operative technique is whether it affects the long-term implant stability or not. One way to address this is, by measuring early micromotion, to predict the future revision rate. READ MORE

  3. 3. Postoperative pain, inflammation and functional recovery after total hip arthroplasty : Prospective, randomized, clinical studies

    Author : Jan Kuchalik; Anil Gupta; Anders Lundin; Mats Enlund; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Total hip arthroplasty; local infiltration analgesia; intrathecal morphine; femoral nerve block; postoperative pain; spinal anesthesia;

    Abstract : Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is performed in patients with osteoarthritis of the hip joint. Pain following THA is often moderate but no gold stand-ard exists for pain management. Good postoperative pain management may lead to a better quality of life and hip function. READ MORE

  4. 4. Surgery versus nonsurgical treatment of cervical radiculopathy. Randomized studies of anterior cervical decompression and fusion followed by physiotherapy versus structured physiotherapy alone

    Author : Markus Engquist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cervical radiculopathy; long term; cervical disc degeneration; outcome; ACDF; surgery; physical therapy; physiotherapy; RCT; randomized;

    Abstract : Background and aims: Cervical radiculopathy (CR) is a symptom complex comprising neck pain and radiating arm pain due to compression of one or more cervical nerve roots, caused by spondylotic narrowing of the intervertebral foramina, intervertebral disc herniation or both. Anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF) is a common surgical procedure to treat CR, but the evidence supporting use of this method versus nonsurgical treatment is scarce. READ MORE

    Abstract : Tillgång till rent dricksvatten är en global utmaning, vilket återspeglas i hållbar utvecklingsmål 6. I Bangladesh är det en brådskande fråga att överbrygga klyftan mellan de som har säkert hanterat dricksvatten och de med förbättrade källor. READ MORE
