  1. 1. Autoimmunity in glomerulonephritis; serological diagnosis and clinical outcome with special reference to Wegener´s granulomatosis and microscopic polyangiitis

    Author : Kerstin Westman; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wegener´s granulomatosis; vasculitis; thyroid peroxidase antibodies; proteinase 3; myeloperoxidase; antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies; ANCA; thyroiditis; autoantibodies; glomerulonephritis; microscopic polyangiitis; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : Autoantibodies of different specificites have been described in association with glomerulonephritis and therefore the aim of this thesis was to improve our knowledge of the different manifestations of autoimmune phenomena which are involved in the glomerulonephritides. Special reference is made to Wegener´s granulomatosis (WG) and microscopic polyangiitis (MP) which are frequently associated with the prevalence of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA). 2. 2. Molecular dissection of the Goodpasture epitope

    Author : Thomas Hellmark; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urologi; autoimmune; anti-GBM nephritis; glomerulonephritis; nephrology; Urology; nefrologi;

    Abstract : Goodpasture disease is a prototype autoimmune disease that is characterized by a rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, with or without lung haemorrhage, associated with autoantibodies against the glomerular basement membrane. The major antigen has previously been shown to be the non-collagenous domain of the a3 chain of type IV collagen, one of the six known a chains of type IV collagen. READ MORE

  3. 3. Immunoglobulins, immunoglobulin subclass-distributions and serologic markers in some renal and systemic disorders

    Author : Gabriel Almroth; Jan Björklander; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Immunoglobulins; immunoglobulin-subclass distribution; hydralazine; ANCA; anti-:MPO; primary SjOgren s syndrome; hepatitis B vaccination; anti-HBssubclasses; immunoadsorption; plasmapheresis; antibodies; hepatitis C virus; transmission; recombinant immunoblot assay; hepatitis C genotype; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In this study we evaluated pathogenetic factors and possible mediators of renal and systemic disorders where immunologic mechanisms might be of importance.An abberant immunoglobulin and IgG-subclass distribution was detected in 103 patients with primary and secondary glomerulonephritis as well as in 38 patients with the systemic disease primary Sjögren 's syndrome or purpura hypergammaglobulinemica (elevated IgG1 and low IgG2 ). 4. 4. Some lifestyle-related factors and risk of chronic renal failure : a population-based approach

    Author : Elisabeth Ejerblad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Epidemiology; population-based; case-control; chronic renal failure; risk factors; smoking; antioxidant; fruit; vegetable; protein intake; obesity; birth weight; height; analgesics; paracetamol; aspirin; NSAIDs; phenacetin;

    Abstract : Some renal diseases, i.e. rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, are sufficient causes of a rapid, permanent total loss of renal function. However, the majority of renal diseases progress slowly over decades, initially often without symptoms, sometimes making it difficult to define the aetiologies. READ MORE
