  1. 16. On ischemia/reperfusion injury and rejection in concordant xenotransplantation to the rat

    Author : Daniel Jan Lukes; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Concordant; xenotransplantation; rat; hamster; mouse; rejection; necrosis; PCr; ß-ATP; ROS; SOE light; I RP; IPC;

    Abstract : Studies in concordant (without preformed antibodies) rodent xenotransplantation (transplantation between species) models have focused, to date, on immunological disparities. In allotransplantation (transplantation within species), there is evidence suggesting that early ischemic events may contribute to later rejection episodes and to the development of chronicrejection features. 2. 17. Overlapping Neural Substrates of Alcohol- and Anxiety-Related Behavior in the Rat

    Author : Riccardo Barchiesi; Estelle Barbier; Markus Heilig; Annika Thorsell; Andrew Holmes; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alcohol use disorder; Anxiety disorder; Behavior; Rat; Prelimbic cortex; Amygdala; Basolateral amygdala; Stress; Epigenetics; Syt1; Prdm2; Avp; Conditioned fear; Social defeat stress; Witness stress; Susceptibility; Resilience;

    Abstract : Alcohol use is a leading cause of death and disease worldwide. A large part of this disease burden is associated with alcohol use disorder (AUD), a diagnostic category characterized by excessive use in spite of negative consequences ("compulsive use"), a loss of control over intake, and choice of alcohol over natural rewards. 3. 18. Mechanisms of transendothelial and tissue transport in the peritoneum. Experimental studies on rat

    Author : Bert-Inge Rosengren; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nefrologi; Urologi; hyaluronan; interstitium; blood flow; rat; pore; inhibition; temperature; peritoneal dialysis; permeability; capillary; protein; passive; active; transport; transcytosis; vesicle; Urology; nephrology; small solute;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the quantitative role of active transport (transcytosis) in bulk transvascular protein movement in vivo was evaluated. Using chemical transcytosis inhibition (N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and filipin), we were able to show that NEM actually increases endothelial permeability to macromolecules, probably as a result of unspecific toxic action on endothelial cells. 4. 19. Differential effects of voluntary running on hippocampal plasticity in the adult rat brain

    Author : Andrew Stuart Naylor; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : exercise; hippocampus; stress; progenitor proliferation; neurogenesis; trophic factors; frontal cortex; spatial memory; rat; pCREB; endogenous opioids;

    Abstract : The continuation of neuronal birth from dividing neural stem cells in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus throughout adulthood is known to play an important role in maintaining normal hippocampal function, such as memory and learning. Negative alterations in the levels of adult neurogenesis have also been linked to several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer s disease and mood disorders such as depression. READ MORE

  5. 20. Development and Evaluation of Web Applications for Investigating Candidate Genes in Rat Models of Complex Diseases

    Author : Lars Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : rat; complex disease; rheumatoid arthritis; type 2 diabetes mellitus; QTL; candidate genes; web application; text mining;

    Abstract : Many human diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and type 2 diabetes mellitus, have a very complex development, depending on both environmental and multiple genetic factors. By crossing inbred rat strains susceptible to a genetic disorder with strains resistant to the same disorder, genomic regions associated with the disease can be identified, so called quantitative trait loci (QTLs).
