  1. 21. On surgical techniques to increase bone density and volume. Studies in the rat and the rabbit

    Author : Christer Slotte; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autogeneic bone; bovine bone mineral; calvaria; cortical perforation; guided bone augmentation; maxilla; microangiography; morphometry; rabbit; rat; tibia; titanium implants; vessel topography;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND. Various techniques of surgical intervention have been suggested to promote bone densityand volume; however, the predictability of such techniques is not always sufficiently supported by preclinicalevaluations.AIM. READ MORE

  2. 22. Masticatory retraining effect on masseter muscle, facial morphology and alveolar bone structure in the adult rat

    Author : Anna Ödman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adult; rat; craniofacial morphology; alveolar trabecular bone; MYH; mandible; masticatory function;

    Abstract : The aim of this series of investigations was to study the effect of masticatory muscle retraining in adult rats with an earlier reduced masticatory muscle function on the craniofacial morphology, on the internal alveolar bone structure and on the deep masseter muscle. Material and Methods: Sixty young male rats received soft diet for a prolonged period, so that the animals developed weak masticatory muscles. READ MORE

  3. 23. Dopaminergic stabilizers for the treatment of schizophrenia. Rat studies focusing on negative symptoms and mechanisms of action

    Author : Johan P. Rung; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ACR16; dopaminergic stabilizers; -MK-801; motor activity; negative symptoms; - -OSU6162; prolactin; rat; schizophrenia; social withdrawal;

    Abstract : Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder manifested by positive, negative and cognitive symptoms. Current antipsychotic drugs have poor effects on negative and cognitive symptoms, thus necessitating the development of new antipsychotic treatments. 4. 24. Regulation of bile acids by prebiotic food components : Studies in rat caecum and in serum of mice and humans

    Author : Tannaz Ghaffarzadegan; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []

    Abstract : Bile acids (BA) are formed from cholesterol in the liver and, apart from being part of fat digestion, they also act as signalling molecules in several health-related physiological processes. BA composition is regulated by gut microbiota as well as dietary fibre (DF) and fat in the diet. READ MORE

    Abstract : Abstract Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the western world, and the number one cause of disability. 85% of all strokes are ischemic. Most stroke survivors will experience recovery of function. The mechanisms behind this improvement are partly unknown, but may involve elements of both compensation and restoration. READ MORE
