  1. 1. Estimation of hazard ratios from observational data with applications related to stroke

    Author : Guilherme Barros; Jenny Häggström; Marie Eriksson; Daniel Nevo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; survival analysis; causal inference; hazard ratios; marginal hazard ratio; stroke; balancing; Statistics; statistik;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to examine some challenges that may emerge when conducting time-to-event studies based on observational data. Time-to-event (also called survival) is a setting that involves analyzing how different factors may influence the length of time until an individual experiences the event of interest. READ MORE

  2. 2. Isomeric yield ratios in nuclear fission

    Author : Zhihao Gao; Andreas Solders; Ali Al-Adili; Mattias Lantz; Stephan Pomp; Olivier Serot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear fission; isomeric yield ratio; angular momentum; independent fission yield; ion guide; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Isomeric yield ratios (IYR), referring to the relative yield of the high spin states of a nucleus to the total yield of all observed states, is an observable of nuclear fission that has the potential to improve our understanding of the fission dynamics. Apart from that, systematic observations of IYRs can also contribute to other areas, such as the validation of fission models, modelling of the r-process in stellar nucleosynthesis, studies of the antineutrino mixing angle, the safety of present-day nuclear reactors, and the design of advanced reactor systems. 3. 3. Tracking Chambers with Two-Dimensional Readout used for Extraction of Particle Production Ratios in High Multiplicity Pb+Pb Collisions at 158 A GeV

    Author : Tomas Svensson; Fysiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heavy-ion collisions; position resolution; wire chamber pixel readout; pad readout; tracking; multi-step avalanche chamber; Fysik; Physics; particle ratios;

    Abstract : Heavy-ion collisions at high energies calls for new technical solutions to cope with the very high multiplicities of produced particles. In this thesis the design and development of two types of tracking chambers for high multiplicity environments are presented. READ MORE

  4. 4. Refined in vitro Models for Prediction of Intestinal Drug Transport : Role of pH and Extracellular Additives in the Caco-2 Cell Model

    Author : Sibylle Neuhoff; Per Artursson; Anna-Lena Ungell; Patrick Augustijns; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; Caco-2 cells; membrane permeability; drug permeation; drug efflux ratios; drug uptake ratios; Cremophor EL; bovine serum albumin; pH-dependent permeability; drug transport; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Abstract : Drug transport across the intestinal epithelium is roughly predicted from permeability values obtained from Caco-2 cell monolayers. This thesis examines the important role of pH and extracellular additives for increasing the reliability and predictivity of the in vitro screening system, Caco-2. READ MORE
