  1. 31. Aspects of Regulation of GFR and Tubular Function in the Diabetic Kidney : Roles of Adenosine, Nitric Oxide and Oxidative Stress

    Author : Patrik Persson; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Bengt Rippe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes; diabetic nephropathy; glomerular filtration rate; renal blood flow; insulin; renal hemodynamics; micropuncture; oxygen; NADPH-oxidase; apocynin; streptozotocin; l-arginine; CGS21680; rats; mice; Physiology; Fysiologi; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Diabetic nephropathy is the main cause for initiation of renal replacement therapy and early symptoms in patients include increased glomerular filtration rate (GFR), decreased oxygen tension and albuminuria, followed by a progressive decline in GFR and loss of kidney function. Experimental models of diabetes display increased GFR, decreased tissue oxygenation and nitric oxide bioavailability. READ MORE

  2. 32. The influence of nitric oxide and cholecystokinin on tissue homeostasis in exocrine pancreas : an experimental study in rats

    Author : Lena Trulsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Growth of the pancreas is stimulated by cholecystokinin (CCK) in rats. Nitric oxide (NO), which is synthesized from the amino acid L-arginine by NO-synthases (NOS), interferes with CCK in modulating the pancreatic secretion. READ MORE

  3. 33. Middle ear structure in relation to function : the rat in middle ear research

    Author : Nils Albiin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : rats; Eustachian tube; ear; middle; tympanic membrane; palatal muscles; mucous membrane; blood vessels; mast cells; otitis media; microscopy; electron;

    Abstract : The present study was undertaken to evaluate the rat as a model for middle ear research. The rat was chosen primarily because the gross structure of its middle ear shows several similarities to that of man. READ MORE

  4. 34. Dynamics of the glomerular filtration barrier - Physiological and pathophysiological aspects

    Author : Josefin Axelsson; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glomerular filtration barrier; Glomerular permeability; Microalbuminuria; Albumin; Ficoll; Sieving Coefficient; Rats;

    Abstract : The dynamic properties of the glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) are of fundamental importance for the understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of microalbuminuria and proteinuric diseases. In the studies of this doctoral thesis the properties of the rat glomerular filtration barrier were investigated under resting conditions and following a number of challenges using highly sensitive gel filtration chromatography (HPSEC) detection of FITC-Ficoll in serum and urine.
