  1. 1. Molecular characterization of type I endometrial carcinomas

    Author : Kristina Levan; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : endometrial cancer; gene expression; Rb1; E2F-1;

    Abstract : Endometrial carcinoma is the most common malignancy in the female reproductive tract. In Sweden over 1300 women are diagnosed every year, and although the prognosis is favourable in the majority of cases, about 160 patients die of the disease every year. READ MORE

  2. 2. Translational readthrough of nonsense mutant TP53, RB1 and PTEN tumor suppressor genes as a strategy for novel cancer therapy

    Author : Mireia Palomar Siles; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A nonsense mutation causes a premature termination codon in the coding sequence of an mRNA. This leads to termination of translation and release of a truncated and in most cases non-functional protein. READ MORE

  3. 3. Role of MYCN in retinoblastoma : From carcinogenesis to tumor progression

    Author : Hanzhao Zhang; Finn Hallböök; Johan Holmberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MYCN; retinoblastoma; RNA sequencing; cancer; avian; E2F; carcinogenesis; Developmental Neurosciences; Medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi;

    Abstract : Retinoblastoma, a pediatric malignancy of the retina, is primarily driven by the bi-allelic inactivation of the RB1gene. However, a subset of cases are characterized by proficient RB1 functions but with MYCN copy number mutations, suggesting an alternative oncogenic mechanism in the absence of RB1 mutations. READ MORE

  4. 4. The epidemiology, biology and genetics of human astrocytic tumours

    Author : Magnus Bäcklund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cancer; cell cycle; apoptosis; astrocytic glioma; glioblastoma; Rb 1 pathway; p53 pathway; EGFR; PTEN; prognosis; parathyroid adenoma; epidemiology;

    Abstract : In Sweden > 1000 primary central nervous system (CNS) tumours are diagnosed each year. The majority are malignant and in adults astrocytic gliomas dominate. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic Characterization of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors

    Author : Anna Dahlen; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; mesenchymal tumor; pericytoma; Genetics; chondroma; lipoma;

    Abstract : Bone and soft tissue tumors (BSTT) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal and neuroectodermal origin. Although many BSTT are rare, it has become clear that BSTT are characterized by recurrent acquired chromosomal aberrations, and the general aim of this thesis have been to apply molecular genetic and molecular cytogenetic techniques to further characterize recurrent breakpoints and deletions, and to search for candidate target genes.
