  1. 1. Phylogenetic Studies in the Gentianales – Approaches at Different Taxonomic Levels

    Author : Maria Backlund; Mats Thulin; Birgitta Bremer; Kåre Bremer; Mikael Hedrén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Gentianales; phylogeny; classification; rbcL; trnT-F; rps16; ndhF ndh; Paederieae; Putorieae; Rubiaceae; Loganiaceae; Buddlejaceae; Gelsemiaceae; Apocynaceae; Gentianaceae; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with phylogenetic relationships at different taxonomic levels. All the plants studied are or have been included in the order Gentianales, which comprises about 17 200 species. READ MORE

  2. 2. Phylogenetic Studies in the Euasterids II : with Particular Reference to Asterales and Escalloniaceae

    Author : Johannes Lundberg; Olof Ryding; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organismic biology; Organismbiologi; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Abstract : The present study is concerned with the evolutionary relationships among the Euasterids II, a group of angiosperms that includes the orders Apiales, Aquifoliales, Asterales, and Dipsacales together with several small, poorly known families yet unplaced as to order.Parsimony analysis of nucleotide sequence data from the chloroplast genes atpB, ndhF and rbcL together with morphological data are used to construct a phylogeny of the order Asterals, which in the present sense includes 11 families and more than 26 000 species. 3. 3. The Gnetales: fossils and phylogenies

    Author : Catarina Rydin; Else Marie Friis; Mari Källersjö; Ulf Swensson; Susana Magallón; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : seed plants; Gnetales; Ephedra; fossils; DNA; phylogeny; morphology;

    Abstract : The phylogeny of seed plants has been debated for more than a hundred years and is still not fully understood. Morphological analyses have consistently resulted in a phylogeny in which cycads are the earliest diverging seed plants, and Gnetales and angiosperms are sisters. Molecular data has, however, rarely supported this result. READ MORE

  4. 4. Phylogenetic and ecological studies in lichenology : including studies of both mycobiont and photobiont

    Author : Åsa Dahlkild; Anders Tehler; Ingvar Kärnefelt; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phylogeny; ecology; lichen; photobiont; mycobiont; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni;

    Abstract : In this thesis different aspects in lichens are investigated, namely, the phylogeny of mycobiont and photobiont, and ecology in the form of species richness of certain habitats of the Uppland province, Sweden.Analyses of ITS sequences of the lichenized fungi genus Roccella (Roccellaceae) provide an intrageneric topology of the genus with emphasis on the European, Mediterranean and Macaronesian species. 5. 5. Mistletoes and Thionins : as Selection Models in Natural Products Drug Discovery

    Author : Sonny Larsson; Anders Backlund; Lars Bohlin; Peter J. Houghton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmacognosy; drug discovery; mistletoe; phylogeny; cytotoxic peptides; Santalales; Farmakognosi;

    Abstract : The process of drug discovery from natural products starts with the selection of study object. In this project recent knowledge and methods are incorporated to investigate the process of such selection for pharmacognostic investigations. READ MORE
