1. Treatment of textile wastewaters using combinations of biological and physico-chemical methods
Abstract : Considerable amounts of water and chemicals are used in the textile industry, and the presence of dyes in the wastewater is a problem of environmental concern. Synthetic dyes are designed to resist light, water and chemicals to improve the quality of the textiles; however, these properties also contribute to their persistence in the environment. READ MORE

2. DNA-Photosensitization by New Drugs for Photoinactivation of Viruses and Phototherapy of Tumors
Abstract : Cyanines and pyropheophorbides are two classes of photoactivable dyes which are particularly interesting for photosterilization of blood used in transfusion and for treatment of localised cancers by photodynamic therapy (PDT). After a bibliographic review about the principal mechanisms of DNA photosensitization, studies about the photosensitizing properties of these two families of compounds are presented. READ MORE

3. Single-Proton Irradiation of Living Cells - Development of New Tools for Low-Dose Radiation Research
Abstract : A Single-Ion Hit Facility (SIHF) consists of a custom-build facility based in particle accelerators which offers irradiation controlling the number of delivered particles with a precise targeting localization. The irradiation spot can be confined down to the nanometre scale allowing the irradiation of subcellular compartments with a single particle. READ MORE

4. Development of Methods in CE, CE-MS and MS/MS : Applications in Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Forensic sciences
Abstract : Capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry has been used successfully for the analysis of a wide range of analytes such as chiral local anaesthetics, sulphonated reactive dyes and endogenous neurotransmitters and neuropeptides. The partial filling technique was used in CE-MS for chiral separation of bupivacaine and ropivacaine using the non-volatile selector β-cyclodextrin. 5. Laccase from a Litter Degrading Fungus: Evaluation for Environmental Applications and Modification of Lignin to a Bioadhesive
Abstract : Laccase, the phenol oxidizing enzyme, was first described towards the end of the 19th century from the wound sap of the lacquer tree Rhus vernicifera. The enzyme has the widest distribution in nature among the multicopper oxidases. It catalyzes single electron transfer oxidation in the presence of molecular oxygen producing water as by-product.
