  1. 16. Computer-Assisted  Coronary  CT  Angiography  Analysis : From  Software  Development  to  Clinical  Application

    Author : Chunliang Wang; Örjan Smedby; Anders Persson; Hans Frimmel; Evert-jan Vonken; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vessel segmentation; coronary CTA; fuzzy connectedness; level set; coronary artery disease; Image analysis; Bildanalys; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Advances in coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) have resulted in a boost in the use of this new technique in recent years, creating a challenge for radiologists due to the increasing number of exams and the large amount of data for each patient. The main goal of this study was to develop a computer tool to facilitate coronary CTA analysis by combining knowledge of medicine and image processing, and to evaluate the performance in clinical settings. 2. 17. Photonic Devices and Applications based on Intersubband Transitions and Electromagnetically Induced Transparency

    Author : Peter Jänes; Lars Thylén; Christopher Phillips; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : Although photonic devices have experienced a rapid development lately, there is still room for substantial improvements in performance. From a telecommunications perspective, improvements in speed, size, integration and power consumption are desired. There is also a general interest in photonic devices with new functionalities. 3. 18. Study of fluid flow inside the gearbox

    Author : Erwin Adi Hartono; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Long haul trucks spend (almost) 80% of their time cruising from one destination to another. This means that they drive mostly at a constant speed and use their top gear most of the time. Depending on the gearbox, the top gear of long haul trucks is usually direct drive gear. READ MORE

  4. 19. Changes in writing processes caused by post-stroke aphasia or low-grade glioma

    Author : Charlotte Johansson-Malmeling; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aphasia; writing; writing process; spelling; keystroke logging; low-grade glioma;

    Abstract : Background: Writing is a cognitively and linguistically complex task, therefore sensitive to impairment caused by the presence and surgical removal of low-grade glioma or presence of post-stroke aphasia. Purposes: The overall aim of the thesis was to investigate the changes in writing processes, text characteristics and spelling caused by post-stroke aphasia or low-grade glioma. READ MORE

  5. 20. Choice of tRNA on Translating Ribosomes

    Author : Elli Bouakaz; Måns Ehrenberg; Christian Spahn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Ribosome; Translation; Accuracy; Proofreading; tRNA; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses different aspects of the question about accuracy of protein synthesis: i) the mechanism of tRNA selection during translation ii) study of ribosomal mutations that affect accuracy and iii) the choice of aminoacyl-tRNA isoacceptors on synonymous codons.By measuring the codon reading efficiencies of cognate and near-cognate ternary complexes we demonstrate that in optimal physiological conditions accuracy of substrate selection is much higher than previously reported; that during translation the ribosomal A site is not blocked by unspecific binding of the non-cognate tRNAs which would inhibit the speed of protein synthesis.
