  1. 1. Neck injuries in rear impacts : Dummy neck development, dummy evaluation and test condition specifications

    Author : Astrid Linder; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Neck; Injury; Anthropometric dummy; Severity; Impact test; Rear end collision; Seat; Mathematical model; Velocity; Thesis; Optimization; Mathematical neck models; Rear impact tests; Biomechanics; Road: Components of the vehicle; Road: Components of the vehicle;

    Abstract : The objective of the work underlying this thesis was firstly to develop a neck for a new rear impact dummy, to evaluate the complete dummy and to specify test conditions for a consumer test with attention to AIS 1 neck injuries in rear impacts. In the development of the dummy neck, a mathematical neck model was developed and evaluated. READ MORE

  2. 2. On Threat Assessment and Decision-Making for Avoiding Automotive Vehicle Collisions

    Author : Mattias Brännström; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; collision avoidance; decision-making; active safety; intersection collisions; rear-end collisions; collision mitigation; threat assessment; autonomous braking; automotive safety;

    Abstract : Road traffic accidents are one of the world’s largest public health problems. In the EU alone, traffic accidents cause approximately 1.8 million injuries and 43.000 fatalities each year. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of a Mechanical Model for Rear Impacts: Evaluation of Volunteer Responses and Validation of the Model

    Author : Johan Davidsson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : whiplash; validation; rear impact; dummy; seat; spine; rear-end collision; volunteer; BioRID; neck;

    Abstract : The objective of this research has been to develop a biofidelic crash-test dummy to facilitate design of seat systems with enhanced occupant protection in rear-end collisions. These frequent collisions may cause soft-tissue neck injuries to occupants in struck vehicles. READ MORE

  4. 4. Vehicle Dynamics Control for Active Safety Functions using Electrified Drivelines

    Author : Adithya Arikere; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; driver assistance systems; intersection accidents; torque vectoring; optimal control; rear- end collisions; speed control; active safety; vehicle dynamics; electrified drivetrain; obstacle avoidance with oncoming traffic;

    Abstract : Studies have shown that even considering pledges and commitments made by various governments and organisations, the growth in electrified vehicle sales is likely to be insufficient to reduce CO2 emissions for mitigating global warming. Some form of added incentive is needed that can help drive electrified vehicle sales in the open market. READ MORE

  5. 5. Vehicle Dynamic Opportunities in Electrified Vehicles for Active Safety Interventions

    Author : Adithya Arikere; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rear-end collisions; active safety; vehicle dynamics; obstacle avoidance with oncoming traffic; speed control; electrified drivetrain; torque vectoring; driver assistance systems;

    Abstract : Although the sales of electrified vehicles is growing, studies indicatethat the growth is inadequate to sufficiently reduce CO2 emissions andmitigate global warming. Some form of added incentive is needed to driveelectrified vehicle sales. READ MORE
