16. Reversal of thyroid dedifferentiation and an invasive phenotype by small molecule kinase inhibitors: an experimental study on normal and malignant cells
Abstract : Refractoriness to I-131 in dedifferentiated thyroid cancer is a great concern that restricts radioiodine therapy. There is also a lack of knowledge in understanding the mechanisms leading to repressed sodium iodide symporter (NIS) expression and impaired iodide uptake in tumor cells. READ MORE

17. GPS for Geophysics: Glacial Isostatic Adjustment and Tests of Ionospheric Models
Abstract : This dissertation is divided into two parts that separately utilize high precision Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite observations for inferences of solid earth and ionospheric parameters. In the first part of the dissertation, solid earth movements in Sweden and Finland are observed with GPS at a precision of the order 0.1 mm/yr. 18. Insulin and growth hormone : regulation of adipocyte metabolism during infancy and childhood
Abstract : The aim of the present investigation was to investigate the role of insulin and growth (GH) in adipose tissue metabolism during development. Lipolysis and lipogenesis were studied in isolated adipocytes from humans and rats of various ages. READ MORE

19. Translational genomics of HIV-1 subtype C in India : molecular phylogeny and drug resistance
Abstract : This thesis describes the translational genomics of HIV-1subtype C in India from its origin to therapeutic response with the aim to improve our knowledge for better therapeutic and preventive strategies to combat HIV/AIDS. In a systemic approach, we identified the molecular phylogeny of HIV-1 subtypes circulating in India and the time to most recent common ancestors (tMRCA) of predominant HIV-1 subtype C strains. 20. Electrical and Optical Properties of AlGaAs/GaAs Aperiodic Superlattices and Resonant Tunneling Diodes. Theory, Design and Applications
Abstract : The objective of the work presented in this thesis is to study quantum transport and optical properties of aperiodic superlattices and resonant tunneling diodes using III-V semiconductor heterostructures grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The study follows a procedure of theoretical modeling, computer-aided design and simulation, sample growth, and measurements. READ MORE
