  1. 6. Exploring Biologically-Inspired Interactive Networks for Object Recognition

    Author : Mohammad Saifullah; Arne Jönsson; Rita Kovordányi; Christian Balkenius; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Interactive neural networks; Biologically-Inspired models; Visual attention; Object recognition.; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with biologically-inspired interactive neural networks for the task of object recognition. Such networks offer an interesting alternative approach to traditional image processing techniques. Although the networks are very powerful classification tools, they are difficult to handle due to their bidirectional interactivity. READ MORE

  2. 7. Functional Organization of Cerebellar Modules Controlling Forelimb Movements: Climbing and Mossy Fibre Input and Motor Output via the Red Nucleus and Motor Cortex

    Author : Henrik Jörntell; Neurofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurofysiologi; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology;

    Abstract : A modular organization has recently been described for the cerebellar control system comprising the forelimb areas of the C1/C3/Y zones in the cerebellar cortex and nucleus interpositus anterior (NIA) of the cat. A module is a group of cells in NIA which receives homogenous climbing fibre input via Purkinje cells that belong to the same set of microzones in the C1/C3/Y zones. READ MORE

  3. 8. New functional and anatomical aspects of the organisation of human peripheral nerve

    Author : Rolf Ekedahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Somatosensory system; Peripheral nerve organisation; somatotopy; modalitysegregation; cutaneous mechanoreceptors; Human.Huddinge 1996;

    Abstract : The functional topography of peripheral nerves has been studied by various indirect electrophysiological and histological methods. Even though some studies have suggested the presence of a somatotopical arrangement of nerve fibres, the prevailing view is that a random distribution of nerve fibres develops in the nerve due to the repeated rearrangement of nerve fascicles along their centripetal course. 4. 9. Aspects of memory and representation in cortical computation

    Author : Martin Rehn; Anders Lansner; Örjan Ekeberg; Peter Földiák; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cerebral cortex; neural networks; attractor memory; sequence learning; biological vision; generative models; serial order; computational neuroscience; dynamical synapses; Computer science; Datalogi;

    Abstract : Denna avhandling i datalogi föreslår modeller för hur vissa beräkningsmässiga uppgifter kan utföras av hjärnbarken. Utgångspunkten är dels kända fakta om hur en area i hjärnbarken är uppbyggd och fungerar, dels etablerade modellklasser inom beräkningsneurobiologi, såsom attraktorminnen och system för gles kodning. 5. 10. Platformization: Digital Materiality at the Limits of Discourse

    Author : Mikael Gustavsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; digital platforms; platformization; discourse; digital materiality;

    Abstract : The digital platform has served us well as a metaphor for an imaginary ‘something’ made comprehensible through theories such as matchmaking, externalities, and network effects. But as much as metaphors and theories can help us imagine and understand some aspects of a phenomenon, they can also limit us in seeing others. READ MORE
