  1. 6. C5a Receptor Expression in Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock

    Author : Mia Furebring; Jan Sjölin; Per Folllin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communicable diseases; C5a receptor; granulocyte; severe sepsis; septic shock; chemotaxis; anti-C5a treatment; ex vivo incubation; C5a; interleukin-8; LPS; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : In patients with sepsis, the activation of the cascade systems, for example the complement system with the generation of C5a, is followed by a state of immunosuppression with impaired bactericidal capacity caused by suppression of the neutrophil granulocytes. To inhibit the C5a-induced systemic inflammatory and the following anti-inflammatory responses, different anti-C5a strategies have been successful in experimental models of sepsis. READ MORE

  2. 7. Modulation of the Progenitor Cell and Homeostatic Capacities of Müller Glia Cells in Retina : Focus on α2-Adrenergic and Endothelin Receptor Signaling Systems

    Author : Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid; Finn Hallböök; Per Ekström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha2-adrenergic receptor; Brimonidine; Brn3a; Dedifferentiation; Endothelin; EGFR; ERK1 2; Neuroprotection; NMDA; MIO-M1 human Müller cell; Müller cells; Retina; Retinal ganglion cells; Src-kinase; Transactivation.; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Müller cells are major glial cells in the retina and have a broad range of functions that are vital for the retinal neurons. During retinal injury gliotic response either leads to Müller cell dedifferentiation and formation of a retinal progenitor or to maintenance of mature Müller cell functions. READ MORE

  3. 8. Influence of oxidative stress on aryl hydrocarbon receptor signaling

    Author : Afshin Mohammadi Bardbori; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), a multifunctional protein and a key regulator of drug metabolizing enzymes, belongs to the basic-helix-loop-helix (bHLH)/PAS (Per-Arnt-Sim) super-family of transcription factors. The AHR responds to exogenous and endogenous chemicals by induction or repression of a large number of genes involved in many physiological processes and normal development. READ MORE

  4. 9. Regulation of Leptin by Sexual Maturation and Energy Status in Male Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.) Parr

    Author : Susanne Trombley; Monika Schmitz; Sylvie Dufour; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Leptin; leptin receptor; Atlantic salmon; Salmo salar; sexual maturation; puberty; energy balance; hepatocytes; sex steriods; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Abstract : Leptin is a peripheral adiposity signal and a key hormone in energy balance regulation in mammals, acting as a link between nutritional status and the endocrine reproductive axis. If this is also the role of leptin in fish is not fully understood. READ MORE

  5. 10. The uPA receptor in ovarian cancer. Regulation by EGF and the estrogen responsive membrane receptor GPR30. Soluble uPAR in diagnosis and prognosis

    Author : Emir Henic; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; G-1.; GPR30; suPAR; prognosis; estradiol; ovarian cancer; EGFR; ER; diagnosis;

    Abstract : Cell migration is the first step of the invasive process, which is part of the malignant phenotype, and the uPA receptor (uPAR) plays a central role in cell migration. We studied the role of EGF and estrogen on cell migration and uPAR expression in ovarian cancer cell lines. READ MORE
