6. C5a Receptor Expression in Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock
Abstract : In patients with sepsis, the activation of the cascade systems, for example the complement system with the generation of C5a, is followed by a state of immunosuppression with impaired bactericidal capacity caused by suppression of the neutrophil granulocytes. To inhibit the C5a-induced systemic inflammatory and the following anti-inflammatory responses, different anti-C5a strategies have been successful in experimental models of sepsis. READ MORE

7. Modulation of the Progenitor Cell and Homeostatic Capacities of Müller Glia Cells in Retina : Focus on α2-Adrenergic and Endothelin Receptor Signaling Systems
Abstract : Müller cells are major glial cells in the retina and have a broad range of functions that are vital for the retinal neurons. During retinal injury gliotic response either leads to Müller cell dedifferentiation and formation of a retinal progenitor or to maintenance of mature Müller cell functions. READ MORE

8. Influence of oxidative stress on aryl hydrocarbon receptor signaling
Abstract : The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), a multifunctional protein and a key regulator of drug metabolizing enzymes, belongs to the basic-helix-loop-helix (bHLH)/PAS (Per-Arnt-Sim) super-family of transcription factors. The AHR responds to exogenous and endogenous chemicals by induction or repression of a large number of genes involved in many physiological processes and normal development. READ MORE

9. Regulation of Leptin by Sexual Maturation and Energy Status in Male Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.) Parr
Abstract : Leptin is a peripheral adiposity signal and a key hormone in energy balance regulation in mammals, acting as a link between nutritional status and the endocrine reproductive axis. If this is also the role of leptin in fish is not fully understood. READ MORE

10. The uPA receptor in ovarian cancer. Regulation by EGF and the estrogen responsive membrane receptor GPR30. Soluble uPAR in diagnosis and prognosis
Abstract : Cell migration is the first step of the invasive process, which is part of the malignant phenotype, and the uPA receptor (uPAR) plays a central role in cell migration. We studied the role of EGF and estrogen on cell migration and uPAR expression in ovarian cancer cell lines. READ MORE
