  1. 11. Calcium and Phospholipases in Orexin Receptor Signaling

    Author : Lisa Johansson; Jyrki Kukkonen; Karl Åkerman; Christopher S. Leonard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physiology; orexin; receptor; calcium; phospholipase; cell signaling; GPCR; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The neuropeptides orexin-A and -B act as endogenous ligands for G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) called OX1 and OX2 receptors. Previous observations have established that orexin receptors have an ability to couple to different G-proteins and signaling pathways and induce Ca2+ elevations via both receptor-operated Ca2+ channels (ROCs) and store-operated Ca2+ channels (SOCs). 2. 12. Galanin receptor ligands : Design, synthesis, characterization and biological effects

    Author : Kristin Webling; Ülo Langel; Tore Bengtsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : Galanin is a 29/30 amino acid long bioactive peptide discovered over 30 years ago when C-terminally amidated peptides were isolated from porcine intestines. The name galanin originates from a combination of the first and last amino acids - G from glycine and the rest from alanine. READ MORE

  3. 13. Erythropoietin receptor in growth control and anti-estrogen resistance of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer

    Author : Susann Reinbothe; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tamoxifen resistance; proliferation; PI3k pathway; Breast cancer; erythropoietin receptor; estrogen receptor;

    Abstract : The main function of Erythropoietin (EPO) and its receptor (EPOR) is the stimulation of erythropoiesis. Therefore, recombinant human EPO (rhEPO) is used to treat anemia in cancer patients, but some studies have reported that rhEPO treatment might promote tumor progression. Additionally, EPOR expression has been detected in various cancer forms. READ MORE
