  1. 16. Systems Analysis of the Protein Secretory Pathway in Yeast and Human Cells

    Author : Amir Feizi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein production; flux balance analysis; biopharmaceutical; secretory pathway: secretome; recombinant protein; genome-scale modeling; systems biology;

    Abstract : The cell was discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665, later in nineteen century the cell theory was developed as all organisms are composed of one or more cells. Since then, many tools and experimental methods have been developed to dissect and characterize the cell components which resulted in established solid scientific fields such as biochemistry, molecular cell biology and genetics. 2. 17. Vitamin K-dependent protein S - studies of synthesis, structure and function

    Author : Sofia Somajo; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; C4b-binding protein; coagulation; microparticles; protein C; protein S; structure; tissue factor pathway inhibitor;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on four projects with the overall aim to investigate vitamin K-dependent protein S functions in relation to its structure. The anticoagulant functions of protein S can be divided in three: 1) cofactor for activated protein C (APC), 2) cofactor for tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) and 3) APC and TFPI-independent anticoagulant functions. 3. 18. Cotranslational protein biogenesis in Escherichia coli monitored by force profile analysis

    Author : Felix Nicolaus; Gunnar von Heijne; Ross Dalbey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Escherichia coli; cotranslational protein biogenesis; membrane protein; soluble protein; transmembrane helices; force profile analysis; arrest peptide; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Proteins are a diverse class of biomolecules that carry out many essential functions across all organisms. They can either be found in aqueous compartments or embedded in biological membranes of the cell and are called soluble or membrane proteins, respectively. READ MORE

  4. 19. Anticoagulant protein C--structural and functional studies

    Author : Lei Shen; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteins; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; serpins; membrane binding; factor V; protein C; protein S; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : Anticoagulant protein C is a vitamin K-dependent factor circulating in plasma as a zymogen of a serine protease. It is converted to its active form (APC) by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex on the surface of endothelial cells. APC inhibits the generation of thrombin by selective proteolytic inactivation procoagulant factors Va and VIIIa. READ MORE

  5. 20. Engineering microbial cell factories for protein production

    Author : Kiavash Mirzadeh; Daniel Daley; Grzegorz Kudla; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein production; expression vector; recombinant DNA; Translation initiation region; Escherichia coli; mRNA secondary structure; Synthetic evolution; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Proteins are often produced using microbial cell factories for academic or industrial purposes. Protein production is however not an open-and-shut procedure. Production yields often vary in an unpredictable and context dependent manner, limiting the rational design of a straightforward production experiment. READ MORE
