  1. 21. Femoral and Inguinal Hernia : How to Minimize Adverse Outcomes Following Repair

    Author : Ursula Dahlstrand; Ulf Gunnarsson; Gabriel Sandblom; Staffan Wollert; Andrew Kingsnorth; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; femoral hernia; inguinal hernia; adverse outcome; complication; recurrence; chronic pain; long-term pain; emergency; mortality; TEP; Lichtenstein; local anesthesia; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Groin hernia is common, and each year 200 repairs per 100 000 adult inhabitants are performed in Sweden. Groin hernias are either inguinal or femoral (2-4%). Elective repair is not associated with an excess mortality, but adverse outcomes include recurrence and long-term pain. READ MORE

  2. 22. Clinical evaluation and implications of left atrial remodeling in atrial fibrillation : From silent cerebral lesions and atrial stunning to novel electrocardiographic tools for prediction of arrhythmia outcome

    Author : Panagiotis Arvanitis; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Mårten Rosenqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; left atrial remodeling; recurrence; new-onset; silent cerebral lesions; white matter hyperintensities; cardioversion; pulmonary vein isolation; risk factors; electrocardiographic predictors; P-wave indices; machine learning; predictive models; Covid-19;

    Abstract : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia. Left atrial (LA) remodeling and reverse remodeling are associated with cerebral involvement and cognitive function (CF) changes. Risk stratification for AF related outcomes is essential in the management of patients with AF. READ MORE

  3. 23. Stochastic systems with locally defined dynamics

    Author : Anton Muratov; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; point process; sequential adsorption; stopping set; random measure; Polya urn; convergence of empirical measures; bit flipping; recurrence; mixing times; sequential adsorption;

    Abstract : This thesis considers two large classes of models related to the dynamical point processes. The first is the locally interactive sequential adsorption, or LISA, models. READ MORE

  4. 24. Electroconvulsive therapy for depression

    Author : Axel Nordenskjöld; Ingemar Engström; Lars von Knorring; Umeå universitet Jacobsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electroconvulsive therapy; mood disorders; depressive disorder; major; bipolar disorder; treatment outcome; recurrence; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : Aim: The overarching aims of the thesis were to identify clinical characteristics that predict the outcomes of depressed patients treated inclinical practice by ECT, and to elucidate the effectiveness of continuation ECT at preventing relapses and recurrences.Methods: The studies included a retrospective chart review, three studies based on a quality register for ECT, and a randomized controlled trial(RCT) examining the effectiveness of continued ECT. 5. 25. Ischemic Cerebrovascular Disease: Risk Factors and Outcome Predictors with special reference to the role of leukocytes and inflammatory mediators

    Author : Ali Mohamed Elneihoum; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transient ischemic attack.; stroke; risk factors; recurrence; mortality; leukocyte; epidemiology; cytokines; Atherosclerosis; cerebral ischemia; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Ischemic cerebrovascular disease (CVD) is usually a consequence of atherosclerosis and is the commonest cause of stroke. The identification of risk factors and outcome predictors and the initiation of preventive measures constitute the cornerstone of efforts to reduce the risk of stroke and improve outcome. READ MORE
