  1. 1. Dinuclear Manganese Complexes for Artificial Photosynthesis : Synthesis and Properties

    Author : Magnus Anderlund; Björn Åkermark; William H. Armstrong; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Crystal Structure; Artificial photosynthesis; Manganese complex; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the synthesis and characterisation of a series of dinuclear manganese complexes. Their ability to donate electrons to photo-generated ruthenium(III) has been investigated in flash photolysis experiments followed by EPR-spectroscopy. READ MORE

  2. 2. Transition Metal-Catalyzed Redox Reactions : A Journey from Homogeneous Ruthenium to Heterogeneous Palladium Catalysis

    Author : Oscar Verho; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Manfred Reetz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The first part of the thesis covers the development and utilization of electronically modified (pentaarylcyclopentadienyl)Ru-complexes in the racemization of secondary alcohols. This study revealed that the electronic properties of the substrate were the main factors dictating whether β-hydride elimination or hydride re-addition becomes the rate-determining step of the racemization process. 3. 3. Design, Synthesis and Properties of Bipyridine-capped Oligothiophenes for Directed Energy and Electron Transfer in Molecular Electronic Applications

    Author : Lasse Nurkkala; Simon Dunne; Sarah Angus-Dunne; Edwin Constable; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Molecular Electronics; Organic Synthesis; Ruthenium; Pyridyl Complexes; Ligand Design; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Biotechnology Chemical Engineering; bioteknik kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The earliest landmark in computer technology was construction of the Electronic Numerial Integrator and Computer, ENIAC. Computational switching was performed with vacuum tubes and relays, rather large in size, making this computer rather unwieldy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ruthenium(II) Polypyridyl Complexes : Applications in Artificial Photosynthesis

    Author : Olof Johansson; Licheng Sun; Björn Åkermark; Michael D Ward; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Molecular mimics of PS II, which consist of a photosensitizer linked to electron acceptors/donors, are attractive candidates for the conversion of solar energy into chemical energy. Several different classes of sensitizers have been studied and among these, ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes continue to attract major attention. READ MORE

  5. 5. Synthesis of Biomimetic Systems for Proton and Electron Transfer Reactions in the Ground and Excited State

    Author : Giovanny A. Parada; Sascha Ott; Ana Moore; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solar energy conversion; artificial photosynthesis; hydrogen bonds; excited state intramolecular proton transfer; tautomerization; proton-coupled electron transfer; photosensitizer; ruthenium complex.; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : A detailed understanding of natural photosynthesis provides inspiration for the development of sustainable and renewable energy sources, i.e. a technology that is capable of converting solar energy directly into chemical fuels. This concept is called artificial photosynthesis. READ MORE
