  1. 1. Redox models in chemistry  A depiction of the conceptions held by secondary school students of redox reactions

    University dissertation from Umeå : Kemiska institutionen. Umeå universitet

    Author : Lise-Lotte Österlund; Margareta Ekborg; Anders Berg; Christiane Funk; Astrid Bulte; [2010]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; science education; redox reaction; model; inorganic chemistry; organic chemistry; biochemistry; students conceptions; textbook; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Other chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Övrig kemi; didactics of chemistry; kemididaktik;

    Abstract : According to previous research, students show difficulties in learning redox reactions. By the historical development different redox models exist to explain redox reactions, the oxygen model, the hydrogen model, the electron model and the oxidation number model. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spectroelectrochemistry of Redox Enzymes

    University dissertation from Department of Analytical Chemistry, Lund University

    Author : Andreas Christenson; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elektrokemi; Electrochemistry; complex II; bilirubin oxidase; laccase; enzyme mechanism; redox potential; electron transfer; spectroelectrochemistry; redox enzymes; Spectroelectrochemical cell;

    Abstract : A low volume and long optical path spectroelectrochemical cell was constructed and tested in a number of applications such as detection of direct electron transfer (DET) between redox enzymes and gold electrodes, determination of the formal potentials of redox centres in proteins and enzymes, as well as mechanistic studies of heterogeneous and intermolecular electron transfer of copper oxidases and succinate:quinine oxidoreductase (Complex II). The existence of DET between enzymes and electrodes was demonstrated for theophylline oxidase, cytochrome P450 cam, laccase, bilirubin oxidase, sulphite oxidase and Complex II. READ MORE

  3. 3. DNA checkpoint override and redox signaling in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

    University dissertation from Göteborgs universitet

    Author : Johanna J Sjölander; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2019]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Caffeine; Cell cycle; Checkpoint; Cdc25; Wee1; TORC1; FHIT; Proliferation; Aph1; Redox; Hypoxia; H2O2; Cysteine; Thiol; Allosteric; MAPK; Sty1; MAPKK; Wis1;

    Abstract : This thesis covers intracellular stress signaling through genotoxic stress, overriding of checkpoint control, as well as cellular redox status in hypoxic and oxidative stress Papers I and II: Caffeine has been shown to override cell cycle checkpoints in humans as well as in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Understanding of the mechanism may aid in the development of compounds with similar overriding mechanisms for sensitization in cancer therapy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Thiyl radicals, reaction kinetics and redox chemistry

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Kemi

    Author : Rong Zhao; [1998]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In focusing on the free radical chemistry of thiyl radicals,two importantclasses are dealt with, namely, the amino acidalkylthiyl and the acylthiyl radicals, where pulse radiolysisand steady state γ-radiolysis are applied.Amino acid thiyl radicals (RS•), are important in manybiological systems,as intermediates in the repair reactions ofthiols towards targeted carbon-centeredradicals and ascatalytic centers in many enzymatic reactions.
