  1. 11. Proton pathways in energy conversion : K-pathway analogs in O2- and NO-reductases

    Author : Nathalie Gonska; Pia Ädelroth; Alessandro Giuffré; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heme-copper oxidase; cytochrome c oxidase; membrane protein; respiration; electron transfer; proton transfer; redox reaction; metalloprotein; non-heme iron; cytochrome ba3; flow-flash; carbon monoxide; liposome; respiratory control ratio; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Oxygen and nitric oxide reductases are enzymes found in aerobic and anaerobic respiration, respectively. Both enzyme groups belong to the superfamily of Heme-Copper Oxidases, which is further divided into several subgroups: oxygen-reducing enzymes into A-, B- and C-type and nitric oxide reductases into qNORs and cNORs. 2. 12. Compounds with Non-Buttressed Metal-Metal Bond between Platinum and Thallium. Model Systems for Photoinduced Two-Electron-Transfer

    Author : Mikhail Maliarik; KTH; []
    Keywords : thallium; platinum; cyanide; metal-metal bond; non-buttressed; heterometallic; photoinduced; electron transfer; redox reaction; NMR; chemical shift; spin-spin coupling constant; Raman; EXAFS; X-ray diffraction; equilibrium; oxidation state; oxidative;

    Abstract : A new family of oligonuclear cyano compounds incorporatingtransition (Pt) and main group (Tl) metals bound with anon-buttressed Pt-Tl bond was synthesised in aqueous solution.The metal-metal linkage is formed in the reaction betweenplatinum and thallium in their stable oxidation forms, Pt(II)and Tl(III), orvice versa: Pt(IV) and Tl(I). 3. 13. Molecular machinery of a membrane-bound proton pump : Studies of charge transfer reactions in cytochrome c oxidase

    Author : Emelie Svahn; Peter Brzezinski; Ville Kaila; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein; respiration; redox reaction; cytochrome aa3; cytochrome c oxidase; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : In cellular respiration, electron transfer from the breakdown of foodstuff is coupled to the formation of an electrochemical proton gradient. This is accomplished through proton translocation by respiratory complexes, and the proton gradient is subsequently used e.g. to drive ATP production. READ MORE

  4. 14. Formation and Decomposition of Platinum–Thallium Bond, Kinetics and Mechanism. Structural Characterization of Some Metal Cyanides in the Solid State

    Author : Péter Nagy; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metal–metal bond; platinum; thallium; kinetics; mechanism; stopped flow; oxidative addition; cyano complexes; edta; redox reaction; metal cyanides; X–ray diffraction; Raman; NMR; mercury; palladium; nickel; one dimensional wire;

    Abstract : The kinetic and mechanistic features of a new series ofplatinum-thallium cyano compounds containing a direct andunsupported by ligands metal-metal bond have been studied insolution, using standard mix–and–measurespectrophotometric technique and stopped–flow method.These reactions are interpreted as oxidative addition of the cspecies to the square planar Pt(CN)42-complex. 5. 15. Transition Metal-Catalyzed Redox Reactions : A Journey from Homogeneous Ruthenium to Heterogeneous Palladium Catalysis

    Author : Oscar Verho; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Manfred Reetz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The first part of the thesis covers the development and utilization of electronically modified (pentaarylcyclopentadienyl)Ru-complexes in the racemization of secondary alcohols. This study revealed that the electronic properties of the substrate were the main factors dictating whether β-hydride elimination or hydride re-addition becomes the rate-determining step of the racemization process.
