  1. 11. NOx Formation in Rotary Kilns for Iron Ore Pelletization

    Author : Rikard Edland; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rotary kiln; combustion chemistry; emissions control; Grate-Kiln process; Nitrogen oxides; NOx formation;

    Abstract : The production of iron ore pellets is often performed in the so-called Grate-Kiln process. The aim of the process is to oxidize the magnetite (Fe3O4) to hematite (Fe2O3) and to sinter the pellets so they can be used in steel manufacturing. READ MORE

  3. 13. Bio-coal as an alternative reducing agent in the blast furnace

    Author : Asmaa El-Tawil; Lena Sundqvist Öqvist; Bo Björkman; Henrik Saxen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Devolatilization; torrefied biomass; bio-coal; volatile matter; reduction; blast furnace; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : The steel industry is aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by different means; in the short-term, by replacing fossil coal with highly reactive carbonaceous material like bio-coal (pretreated biomass) and, in the longer term, by using hydrogen. The use of bio-coal as part of top charged briquettes also containing iron oxide has the potential to lower the thermal reserve zone temperature of the Blast furnace (BF) and, due to improved gas efficiency, thereby give a high replacement ratio to coke. 4. 14. Towards Abatement of Selected Emissions from Metals Manufacturing

    Author : Diana Orrling; Seshadri Seetharaman; S. Subramanian; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mercury; zinc; iron; copper; sulfur dioxide; adsorption; pollution; spectroscopy; thermal desorption; polycrystalline; surfaces; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Although the metallurgical industry has made great strides in the reduction of unwanted emissions to the atmosphere as a result of production processes, significant challenges still exist. From a global perspective, even large reductions in emissions per produced ton become immaterial when considering that the total world production of metals continues to increase. READ MORE

  5. 15. Computational Fluid Dynamics of Processes in Iron Ore Grate-Kiln Plants

    Author : Per Burström; Xue-Song Bai; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approaches have been developed to studypollution reduction in the manufacturing phase and heat transfer in the packed beds of iron ore pellets. CFD is a versatile tool that can be applied to study numerous problems in fluid mechanics. READ MORE
