  1. 1. IGF-I receptors, insulin receptors and insulin/IGF-I hybrid receptors in human endothelial cells : with special reference to diabetes

    Author : Marloes Dekker Nitert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Patients with diabetes mellitus are known to develop vascular complications, which occur as macroangiopathy, atherosclerosis and mediasclerosis, as well as microangiopathy, e.g. retinopathy and nephropathy. The precise mechanisms causing these complications have not yet been elucidated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fat metabolism : A clinical and experimental study with special reference to newborns

    Author : Gertrud Angsten; Karl-Anders Dahlström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; neonates; total parenteral nutrition; plasma and muscle carnitine; carnitine reference intervals; medium-chain triglycerides; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; kirurgi; särskilt barnkirurgi; Pediatric Surgery;

    Abstract : Lipid emulsion is an important constituent of total parenteral nutrition (TPN). In the investigations described in this thesis the effects of different lipid emulsions in neonates were studied. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ion transport in exocrine glands with reference to cystic fibrosis

    Author : Ailing Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; ion transport; cystic fibrosis; submandibular gland; airway submucosal gland; X-ray microanalysis; cytosolic Ca2 concentration; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Abstract : Aspects of ion transport in rat submandibular gland acinar cells at the subcellular level, and the regulation of chloride secretion and calcium mobilization in cultured pig tracheal gland acinar cells were studied with reference to the disease cystic fibrosis.In adult rat submandibular gland acinar cells, both cholinergic and α-adrenergic stimulation induced efflux of K+ and of C1-, but the response was generally less with α-adrenergic stimulation. 4. 4. Urea and Non-Protein Nitrogen Metabolism in Infants : With Special Reference to the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

    Author : Mary George; Sten Lindahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Urea; non-protein nitrogen metabolism; SIDS; drinking water nitrate concentration; carbon dioxide production; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : A large amount of non-protein nitrogen, in the form of urea and ammonium, is present in human breastmilk; however its physiological role in the infant is as yet not fully understood. It has been hypothesized that an insufficient enteric metabolism of urea could play a role in the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). READ MORE

  5. 5. On the clinical use of digitalis : with reference to its prescription, maintenance therapy, intoxication and the patient's knowledge

    Author : Kurt Boman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Digitalis; prescribing habits; dosages; defined daily doses; geriatric patients; maintenance therapy; withdrawal; intoxication; serum digitalis concentration; patient s knowledge;

    Abstract : Digitalis in one of the most frequently prescribed drugs, especially to elderly people. The prescription of cardiac glucosides (1978) was studied by using statistics from Apoteksbolaget (the National Corporation of Swedish Pharmacies). READ MORE
