11. Exercise capacity with special reference to type 2 diabetes
Abstract : Physical inactivity and obesity is a growing health problem world wide. Three different samples with a wide range of glucose tolerance were included in the thesis to represent a wider population. The exercise capacity was studied in one group of healthy sedentary middle aged men with normal glucose tolerance in study I and II. READ MORE

12. A Detailed Modeling Study for Primary Reference Fuels and Fuel Mixtures and Their Use in Engineering Applications
Abstract : The aim of this work is to generate detailed and simplified kinetic models for the oxidation of the Primary Reference Fuels (PRF) n-heptane, iso-octane and their mixtures, with low numbers of species and reactions. These mechanisms are consistent in terms of the choice of kinetic parameters for the different reaction classes. READ MORE

14. High-Temperature Analog and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits in Bipolar Silicon Carbide Technology
Abstract : Silicon carbide (SiC) integrated circuits (ICs) can enable the emergence of robust and reliable systems, including data acquisition and on-site control for extreme environments with high temperature and high radiation such as deep earth drilling, space and aviation, electric and hybrid vehicles, and combustion engines. In particular, SiC ICs provide significant benefit by reducing power dissipation and leakage current at temperatures above 300 °C compared to the Si counterpart. READ MORE

15. Robust optimization of radiation therapy accounting for geometric uncertainty
Abstract : Geometric errors may compromise the quality of radiation therapy treatments. Optimization methods that account for errors can reduce their effects. The first paper of this thesis introduces minimax optimization to account for systematic range and setup errors in intensity-modulated proton therapy.
