  2. 2. Frictional studies and high strain rate testing of wood under refining conditions

    University dissertation from Sundsvall : Mittuniversitetet

    Author : Birgitta Svensson; Mittuniversitetet.; [2007]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Friction; High strain rate testing; Wood; Mechanical pulping; Tribology; Refining; Energy consumption; TECHNOLOGY Chemical engineering; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : When producing thermomechanical pulps (TMP), wood chips and fiber material are loaded mechanically in a disc-refiner to separate the fibers and to make them flexible. In the process, much of the energy supplied is transferred to the fiber material through cyclic compression, shear and friction processes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of acid hydrogen peroxide treatment on refining energy and TMP properties

    University dissertation from Sundsvall : FSCN - Fibre Science and Communication Network

    Author : Karin Walter; Mittuniversitetet.; [2009]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TMP; Black Spruce; Energy reduction; Hydrogen peroxide; Ferrous sulphate; Refining; Inter-stage treatment; Pulp and paper properties; Fenton´s reagent; Bleaching; Sodium dithionite; Brightness; Metals; Fibre dimensions; Cross-sectional dimensions; Chemical composition; TECHNOLOGY Chemical engineering Chemical process and manufacturing engineering Cellulose and paper engineering; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Kemiteknik Kemisk process- och produktionsteknik Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : The potential of using acid hydrogen peroxide under Fenton conditions to lower the electrical energy consumed during the production of Black spruce (Picea mariana) thermomechanical pulp (TMP) was investigated. The chemical system, which consisted of ferrous sulphate, hydrogen peroxide and optionally an enhancer (3,4-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or oxalic acid/sodium oxalate), was evaluated as an inter-stage treatment where the primary refiner was used as a mixer. 4. 4. Production of Hydrogen for Oil Refining by Thermal Gasification of Biomass: Process Design, Integration and Evaluation

    University dissertation from Sundsvall : FSCN - Fibre Science and Communication Network

    Author : Jean-Florian Brau; [2013]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrogen; Modeling; Refining; Biomass Gasification; Energy Systems; Process Integration;

    Abstract : Hydrogen is an important part of crude oil refining operations since it is required in several units for the desulphurization and upgrading of various oil fractions. At present, most of the refineries meet their hydrogen demand through methane steam reforming, a refinery unit that can represent up to 25% of the plant’s fossil CO2 emissions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quality Control of a Newsprint TMP Refining Process based on Refining Zone Temperature Measurements

    University dissertation from Sundsvall : FSCN - Fibre Science and Communication Network

    Author : David Sikter; [2007]

    Abstract : The ultimate goal of this study was to examine the possibility of using temperature measurements for control purposes in a TMP refining process. The study was carried out in a commercial refiner line at Holmen Paper’s Hallsta Mill, were the primary stage refiner was equipped with temperature sensors. READ MORE
