  1. 21. Synthesis of inositolphosphoglycans found in Trypanosoma cruzi and development of novel carbohydrate monomolecular layers

    Author : Markus Hederos; Robert Madsen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : In this thesis, synthetic carbohydrate chemistry has been utilized to contribute to the fundamental understanding of three biological relevant areas. These include parasite cell-membrane glycoconjugates, protein-resistant surfaces and antifreeze glycoproteins. READ MORE

  2. 22. Adsorption and reactions of sulfur dioxide on TiO2 surfaces : Fundamental studies on single crystals and nanoparticles

    Author : David Langhammer; Lars Österlund; Anders Sandell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a material that is well-known among researchers in environmental science but is perhaps less well-known by the general public. It is commonly used in white paint because of its ability to scatter visible light, and for this reason it is manufactured at a large industrial scale. READ MORE

  3. 23. Quantitative in situ analysis of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper induced by carboxylic acids

    Author : Harveth Gil; Christofer Leygraf; Mark Rutland; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atmospheric corrosion; carboxylic acids; copper; in situ; IRAS; QCM; coulometric reduction.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The interaction of carboxylic acids with copper is a phenomenon found both outdoors and, more commonly, indoors. The influence on copper of some carboxylic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, and butyric) have so far been studied at concentrations levels at least three or four orders of magnitude higher than actual indoor conditions (< 20 ppb, volume parts per billion), and with only limited emphasis on any mechanistic approach. 4. 24. lnterfacial Design and Characterization of Oligo(ethylene glycol) Self-Assembled Monolayers : Templates for Biomolecular Architectures

    Author : Ramūnas Valiokas; Stephen D. Evans; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis presents efforts to better understand and control the interfacial properties of oligo(ethylene glycol)-containing self-assembled monolayers (OEG SAMs) on gold. This has been done by means of molecular and interfacial design, followed by extensive characterization of the SAMs using a variety of surface analytical techniques. READ MORE

  5. 25. Biomolecular interactions at model interfaces : a self-assembled monolayer approach

    Author : Sofia Svedhem; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis has been to explore the use of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) in model studies of biomolecular binding at interfaces. Molecular details of interfaces are difficult to address experimentally, and in spite of the fact that interactions in the living system commonly occur at interfaces, e.g. READ MORE
