  1. 1. Functional Aspects of Cranial Implants : Mechanical and Regenerative Properties

    Author : Susanne Lewin; Caroline Öhman-Mägi; Cecilia Persson; Harry van Lenthe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Calcium phosphate; Ti-6Al-4V; composites; mechanical properties; finite element methods; cranial implants; computed tomography; quantitative image analysis; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Abstract : In several neurosurgical procedures, the skull must be temporarily opened. The resulting bone defect can subsequently be reconstructed with a cranial implant. However, the complication rate of this surgical procedure is high (~20%). The most common complication for cranial implants is infection. READ MORE

  2. 2. Methanation of biosyngas in a fluidized bed reactor

    Author : Martin Seemann; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENERGY TECHNOLOGY; REGENERATIVE ENERGIES; GASIFICATION OF WOOD; FLUIDIZED BED PROCESSES; CHEMICAL ENGINEERING; FUEL TECHNOLOGY; ALTERNATIVE ENERGIES; METHANATION OF HYDROGEN-CARBONMONOXIDE MIXTURES; SYNTHETIC FUELS; NATURAL GAS; BIOGASES;

    Abstract : Rising prices for fossil fuels and concerns over the climate change increase the interest in renewable energies. Synthetic natural gas (SNG) can be an option, filling the request for alternatives in the transportation sector, where the dependence on the oil is very strong. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mass spectrometry for comparative proteomics of degenerative and regenerative processes in the brain

    Author : Carina Sihlbom; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : glycoproteomics; quantitative proteomics; glycoprotein; protein quantification; glycosylation; Fourier transform ion cyclotron mass spectrometry; cerebrospinal fluid; Alzheimer s disease; neurodegeneration; neuroregeneration; hippocampus; astrocytes; brain injury; 14-3-3 protein; isoform;

    Abstract : Biological processes involve changes at the protein level. Proteomics aims to determine protein changes from a normal state, to measure for instance recovery or disease progression. Mass spectrometry is the most important tool for identification of proteins and determination of post-translational modifications such as glycosylation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Markov Chains, Renewal, Branching and Coalescent Processes : Four Topics in Probability Theory

    Author : Andreas Nordvall Lagerås; Thomas Höglund; Ingemar Kaj; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers.In paper 1, we prove central limit theorems for Markov chains under (local) contraction conditions. As a corollary we obtain a central limit theorem for Markov chains associated with iterated function systems with contractive maps and place-dependent Dini-continuous probabilities. READ MORE

  5. 5. A Class of Renewal Processes in Random Environments

    Author : David Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; point process; renewal process; random environment; coupling; regeneration; failure rate; Poisson embedding; asymptotics; stochastic domination; stochastic monotonicity; renewal process;

    Abstract : This paper deals with a generalization of the class of renewal processes with absolutely continuous life length distribution, obtained by allowing a random environment to modulate the stochastic intensity of the renewal process. The random environment is a birth and death process with a finite state space. READ MORE
