  1. 6. Studies of cerebral blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia

    Author : Gustaf Österlundh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia; methotrexate; neurotoxicity; cerebral blood flow; single photon emission computed tomography; cerebrospinal fluid; neuron-specific enolase; glia fibrillary acidic protein; neurofilament; ascorbyl radical;

    Abstract : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common childhood malignancy and more than 80% of the patients are cured today. Treatment might cause side effects and central nervous system (CNS) irradiation has been replaced by systemic high-dose methotrexate (MTX) and intrathecal (IT) MTX due to the risk of late effects. 2. 7. Endothelium-derived substances and regional hemodynamics in experimental hypertension

    Author : Sven-Olof Granstam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; nitric oxide; endothelin; hypertension; rats; SHR; hemodynamics; blood pressure; blood flow; acetylcholine; carvedilol; microsphere method; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), a model for experimental hypertension, is considered to have similarities with essential hypertension in humans. Differences between SHR and normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) in the vascular response to endothelial-derived substances such as nitric oxide (NO) have been intensively studied in vitro. 3. 8. Optimisation and Validation of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI Perfusion Measurements

    Author : Linda Knutsson; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiologi; Nuclear medicine; radiobiology; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; tomography; medical instrumentation; Clinical physics; cerebral blood volume; mean transit time; cerebral blood flow; perfusion; dynamic susceptibility contrast MRI arterial input function; Klinisk fysiologi; radiology;

    Abstract : The studies presented in this thesis concern the optimisation and evaluation of the dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) technique for the assessment of perfusion-related parameters of the brain, such as cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean transit time (MTT). Several methodological factors influence these measurements, for example, contrast-agent administration, arterial input function (AIF) registration, choice of deconvolution algorithm and the choice of pulse-sequence parameters. 4. 9. Posture and brain function in dementia. A study with special reference to orthostatic hypotension

    Author : Ulla Passant; Sektion IV; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; falls and fractures.; white matter disease; hypoperfusion; frontal lobes; regional cerebral blood flow; blood pressure; orthostatic hypotension; Organic dementia; normal subjects; Psychiatry; clinical psychology; psychosomatics; Psykiatri; klinisk psykologi; psykosomatik;

    Abstract : Orthostatic hypotension (OH) is believed to be an important cause of cerebral hypoperfusion, leading to chronic fatigue, blurred vision, unsteadiness, dizziness and sometimes syncope. It may also result in episodes of confusion, falls and fractures. The coupling between OH and organic dementia is not clear. READ MORE
