  2. 2. Spatial clustering and industrial competitiveness : Studies in economic geography

    Author : Per Lundequist; Inge Ivarsson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the causes and effects of spatial clustering of similar and related economic activity. The relationship between spatial clustering and industrial competitive-ness is analysed in a series of empirical studies, revolving around four research questions: How useful is an institutional approach in analyses of spatial clustering? Can the link between spatial clustering and industrial performance be empirically validated and measured by quantitative methods? In what sense does spatial clustering promote localised processes of learning and innovation? What role can industrial and regional policies play in promoting the type of localised processes emphasised in spatial clustering research?It proves to be a rather complicated matter to measure the impact of spatial clustering on firm performance. 3. 3. Towards prediction in ungauged aquifers – methods for comparative regional analysis

    Author : Ezra Haaf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Groundwater; Prediction in ungagued aquifers; Comparative hydrogeology; Similarity; Groundwater hydrographs; Groundwater dynamics; Time series clustering; Groundwater climate interaction; Classification; Regression; Groundwater storage; Groundwater resources management;

    Abstract : Hydrogeological investigations and in particular groundwater resource assessments are strongly reliant on understanding the factors controlling groundwater level dynamics. However, historical records of measured groundwater levels are often scarce and unevenly distributed in space and time. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effective Spatial Mapping for Coupled Code Analysis of Thermal–Hydraulics/Neutron–Kinetics of Boiling Water Reactors

    Author : Joanna Peltonen; Weimin Ma; Maria Avramova; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boiling Water Reactor; RELAP5; TRACE; PARCS; Coupled TH NK analysis; Spatial Mapping; Turbine Trip; Feedwater Transient; Control Rod Drop; Reactor Stability; Hierarchical Clustering; kokvattenreaktor; reaktoranalys; RELAP5; TRACE; PARCS; TH NK analys; turbin tripp; matarvatten transient; fallande styrstav; reaktor stabilitet; hierarkisk klustringsmetodik; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : Analyses of nuclear reactor safety have increasingly required coupling of full three dimensional neutron kinetics (NK) core models with system transient thermal–hydraulics (TH) codes.  In order to produce results within a reasonable computing time, the coupled codes use two different spatial description of the reactor core. 5. 5. Evolutionary Processes and Spatial Genetic Variation in Euphrasia stricta on the Baltic Island of Gotland

    Author : Anna-Karin Kolseth; Brita Svensson; Mikael Lönn; Joop Ouborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; genetic differentiation; regional processes; conservation genetics; AFLP; microsatellites; gene flow; local adaptation; shape analysis; Ekologi;

    Abstract : The identification of processes governing genetic structure at different spatial scales remains a major challenge in evolutionary biology and is of considerable applied interest in conservation biology. In Euphrasia stricta five varieties have been identified (brevipila, gotlandica, stricta, suecica and tenuis) based on differences in habitat, phenology and morphology. READ MORE
