  1. 1. Allosteric Regulation of mRNA Metabolism : -Mechanisms of Cap-Dependent Regulation of Poly(A)-specific Ribonuclease (PARN)

    Author : Per Nilsson; Anders Virtanen; Megerditch Kiledjian; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell and molecular biology; mRNA degradation; deadenylation; cap; poly A ; PARN; allosteric regulation; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Degradation of mRNA is a highly regulated step important for proper gene expression. Degradation of eukaryotic mRNA is initiated by shortening of the 3’ end located poly(A) tail. Poly(A)-specific ribonuclease (PARN) is an oligomeric enzyme that degrades the poly(A) tail with high processivity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Regulation of RNA Editing : The impact of inosine on the neuronal transcriptome

    Author : Mikaela Behm; Marie Öhman; André Gerber; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; RNA editing; ADAR; miRNA; Neuron; Brain development; Synapse; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The transcriptome of the mammalian brain is extensively modified by adenosine to inosine (A-to-I) nucleotide conversion by two adenosine deaminases (ADAR1 and ADAR2). As adenosine and inosine have different base pairing properties, A-to-I RNA editing shapes the functional output of both coding and non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in the brain. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation of hematopoiesis in the freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus : role of transglutaminase

    Author : Kingkamon Junkunlo; Irene Söderhäll; Kenneth Söderhäll; Chadanat Noonin; Mats W Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ast1; clotting protein; crayfish; hematopoiesis; PVF PVR; ROS; transglutaminase; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Abstract : The freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, has been used as a model for studying hematopoiesis or blood cell production or hematopoiesis and immunity. The work of this thesis aims to investigate the impact of factors such as ROS signaling, Ast1, and the PVF/PVR signaling pathway in controlling stem cell behavior during hematopoiesis and specifically the role of the crosslinking enzyme transglutaminase (TGase) in regulation of hematopoiesis. 4. 4. Regulation of hyaluronan biosynthesis : Expression in vitro and importance for tumor progression

    Author : Annica Jacobson; Anders Hjerpe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Hyaluronan, a component of the extracellular matrix, is synthesized by either of three hyaluronan-synthesizing enzymes termed Has1, Has2 and Has3. The expression level of each Has gene varies between cell types of mesenchymal origin and is differentially regulated in response to external stimuli. READ MORE

  5. 5. Regulation of energy metabolism in tumor cells : the role of hexokinase

    Author : Firoz Kabir; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neoplasms; metabolism;

    Abstract : Changes in glucose metabolism are among the most universal andfundamental metabolic alterations observed in cancer cells. Hexokinase isthe initial regulatory enzyme which controls the rate of glucose entranceinto the glycolytic pathway. The content of hexokinase in tumor cells iselevated, and most of the enzyme is bound to mitochondria. READ MORE
