  1. 11. Allosteric Regulation of mRNA Metabolism : -Mechanisms of Cap-Dependent Regulation of Poly(A)-specific Ribonuclease (PARN)

    Author : Per Nilsson; Anders Virtanen; Megerditch Kiledjian; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell and molecular biology; mRNA degradation; deadenylation; cap; poly A ; PARN; allosteric regulation; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Degradation of mRNA is a highly regulated step important for proper gene expression. Degradation of eukaryotic mRNA is initiated by shortening of the 3’ end located poly(A) tail. Poly(A)-specific ribonuclease (PARN) is an oligomeric enzyme that degrades the poly(A) tail with high processivity. READ MORE

  2. 12. Empirical Essays on Procurement and Regulation

    Author : Magnus Arnek; Lars Westin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Competitive tendering; entry; regulation; moral hazard; yardstick competition; Allais Paradox; payoff size; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi; nationalekonomi; Economics;

    Abstract : Essay 1: This paper reports the results of an empirical analysis of the effect of competitive tendering on road operation and maintenance expenses in Sweden. Contrasts of procurement expenses between operation and maintenance contracts let in competitive tendering and similar sole-sourced contracts indicate that competitive tendering reduces procurement expenses by 22-27 percent. Abstract : With accellerating global warming and pollution problems a change of energy regime is necessary. Solar energy offers a clean and unlimited energy source of enormous potential. Due to it’s intermittenet nature solar energy must be stored - ideally in the chemical bond of a carrier molecule. READ MORE

  5. 15. Regulation and transport mechanisms of eukaryotic aquaporins

    Author : Madelene Palmgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aquaporin; Membrane protein; Transport; Glycerol; Aquaglyceroporins; Regulation; arsenite;

    Abstract : Aquaporins are found in all kingdoms of life where they are involved in water homeostasis. They are small transmembrane water conducting channels that belong to the ancient protein family Major Intrinsic Proteins (MIP). READ MORE
