  2. 2. Regulators of Membrane Fluidity

    Author : Kiran Busayavalasa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PAQR; LRIG; membrane fluidity;

    Abstract : Caenorhabditis elegans PAQR-2 (a homolog of the mammalian AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 proteins) and IGLR-2 (homolog of the mammalian LRIG proteins) form a complex at the plasma membrane that regulates fatty acid desaturation to protect against saturated fatty acid-induced membrane rigidification. Maintenance of membrane homeostasis is fundamental for most cellular processes and, given its importance, robust regulatory mechanisms must exist that adjust lipid composition to compensate for dietary variation. 3. 3. Regulators of chromatin and transcription in Drosophila

    Author : Filip Crona; Mattias Mannervik; Fernando Azorin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transcription; chromatin; co-regulators; CBP; lysine demethylase; KDM4A; Brakeless; Drosophila; utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Abstract : Development of multicellular organisms is achieved by organized temporal and spatial patterns of gene expression leading to cell differentiation. Chromatin regulators control how the DNA is utilized by altering access of proteins to DNA and thereby function as co-factors in transcription. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neruons; regulators of CNS inflammation

    Author : Yawei Liu; Neuroinflammation; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Immunologi; serology; Immunology; T cells; inflammation; neuron; CNS; EAE MS; serologi;

    Abstract : Neurons have been neglected as cells with major immune regulatory function. Here, we present novel data demonstrating that neurons are highly immune competent and play crucial role in regulation of T cell response and CNS inflammation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Peptidoglycan Recognition Proteins : Major Regulators of Drosophila Immunity

    Author : Peter Mellroth; Håkan Steiner; Julien Royet; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Innate immunity; peptidoglycan recognition protein; PGRP; Toll; Imd; Drosophila immunity; Microbiology and immunology; Mikrobiologi och immunologi;

    Abstract : All eukaryotic organisms have an innate immune system characterized by germ-line encoded receptors and effector molecules, which mediate detection and clearance of microbes such as bacteria, fungi, and parasites. VertebrateDrosophila as a genetically tractable organism with a This thesis concerns the peptidoglycan recognition protein (PGRP) gene family in the fruit fly. READ MORE
