1. The role of PKC in neuronal differentiation and in regulation of the actin cytoskeleton during neurite outgrowth
Abstract : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases subgrouped into classical (α, βI, βII, γ), novel (δ, ε, η, θ) and atypical (ζ, ι/λ) isoforms. PKC can be activated by phorbol esters, and prolonged treatment of neuroblastoma cells has been shown to induce neuronal differentiation with neurite outgrowth and increased expression of neuronal genes. 2. Regulatory mechanisms of amino acid-induced signaling in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : This thesis describes studies aimed at elucidating the molecular mechanisms that regulate the SPS (Ssy1-Ptr3-Ssy5) signal transduction pathway in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This pathway is induced by extracellular amino acids and facilitates their uptake. READ MORE

3. Structure-function relationships of hormone-sensitive lipase
Abstract : The primary role of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), an 84 kDa enzyme of 768 amino acids (in the rat protein), is to hydrolyse stored triacylglycerols in adipocytes of white adipose tissue. Catecholamines and insulin regulate lipolysis through cellular signalling. READ MORE

4. Vacuolar Ca2+-ATPases in Plants. Regulation by calmodulin binding to a N-terminal autoinhibitory domain
Abstract : The calcium ion (Ca2+) is essential for all plant and animal life. One important function of Ca2+ is as a second messenger in the responses of the cell to environmental and hormonal signals as well as in some intrinsic developmental processes. READ MORE

5. Novel complement regulatory mechanisms in disease
Abstract : The complement system is one of the most important defence mechanisms against bacteria and pathogens. It acts within the framework of both innate and adaptive immunity. READ MORE
