  1. 1. Dealing With Reservoir Effects in Human and Faunal Skeletal Remains : Understanding the radiocarbon dating of aquatic samples

    Author : Jack Dury; Gunilla Eriksson; Kerstin Lidén; Peter Jordan; Johannes van der Plicht; Philippa Ascough; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Radiocarbon Dating; Reservoir Effects; Bayesian; Modelling; Palaeodiet; Stable Isotopes; Skeletal Remains; Collagen; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Abstract : Archaeology relies on the ordering of past events to study cultural developments. This has traditionally been achieved by looking at the stratigraphic depths of materials relative to one another. In this way, chronologies of past technological progressions and stylistic changes can be built. READ MORE

  2. 2. Taxonomy and Reticulate Phylogeny of Heliosperma and Related Genera (Sileneae, Caryophyllaceae)

    Author : Božo Frajman; Bengt Oxelman; Mats Thulin; Christian Brochmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sileneae; Silene; Heliosperma; Atocion; Viscaria; taxonomy; phylogenetics; relative dating; reticulate evolution; chloroplast capture; homoploid hybridisation; BEAST; r8s; PATHd8; Prometheus; RPA2; RPB2; RPD2a; RPD2b; Balkan Peninsula; endemics; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni;

    Abstract : Heliosperma (nom. cons prop.) comprises 15—20 taxa, most of them endemic to the Balkan Peninsula. DNA sequences from the chloroplast (rps16 intron, psbE-petG spacer) and the nuclear genome (ITS and four putatively unlinked RNA polymerase genes) are used to elucidate phylogenetic relationships within Heliosperma, and its position within Sileneae. 3. 3. The crown of Arsinoë II. The creation and development of an imagery of authority

    Author : Maria Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Arsinoë; crowns; Ptolemaic; reliefs; Egyptian art; Egyptian religion; symbolism; female pharaohs; Hathor; God s wife; Edfu; Philae; Dendera; relative scaling; relative placement; concepts of time; post-colonial theory;

    Abstract : This study deals with a unique crown that was created for Queen Arsinoë II. The aim is to identify and understand the symbolism that is embedded in each pictorial detail that together form the crown and how this reflects the wearer’s socio-political and religious positions. 4. 4. Systematics in Sileneae (Caryophyllaceae) – Taxonomy and Phylogenetic patterns

    Author : Frida Eggens; Bengt Oxelman; Magnus Lidén; Susan R. Kephart; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sileneae; Silene; RNAP; psbE-petG; ITS; rps16; relative dating; Rigidulae; Heliosperma; Arenosae; phylogeny; homoploid reticulate evolution; Silene linearis Decne.; Silene polyphylla L.; Hawaiian Silene; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni;

    Abstract : The focus for the first part of the thesis is on the systematics of species belonging to Silene subgenus Silene. Phylogenetic relationships are inferred from DNA sequences from both the plastid (the rps16 intron) and the nuclear (ITS, intron of the RPB2 gene) genomes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Phylogenetic Relationships of Silene sect. Melandrium and Allied Taxa (Caryophyllaceae), as Deduced from Multiple Gene Trees

    Author : Anja Rautenberg; Bengt Oxelman; Mikael Thollesson; Magnus Lidén; Freek Bakker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silene; Elisanthe; Melandrium; Conoimorpha; Caryophyllaceae; Silene multinervia; relative dating; extreme substitution rates; phylogeny; BEST; BEAST; cpDNA; mtDNA; RNA polymerase; RPA2; RPB2; RPD2; SlX1; SlY1; ITS; introgression; incongruent phylogenies; chromosome count; coalescent; Bayes Factors; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on phylogenetic relationships among some of the major lineages in Silene subgenus Behenantha (Caryophyllaceae) using DNA sequences from multiple, potentially unlinked gene regions from a large taxonomic and geographic sample. Both traditional phylogenetic analyses and a strategy to infer species trees and gene trees in a joint approach are used. READ MORE
