  1. 21. Ash transformation in thermochemical conversion of different biomass resources with special focus on phosphorus

    Author : Ali Hedayati; Marcus Öhman; Christoffer Boman; Kentaro Umeki; Anita Pettersson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; agricultural biomass; forest residues; sewage sludge; ash transformation; release; potassium; phosphorus; combustion; gasification; bio charcoal; phosphorus recovery; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : A great potential exists for increasing the use of bioenergy in thermochemical processes by utilizing agricultural biomass, forest residues, and sewage sludge that have high availability. Many of these biomass assortments have high ash contents with relatively high concentrations of ash-forming elements such as potassium (K), calcium (Ca), silicon (Si), and phosphorus (P). READ MORE

  2. 22. Computational Analysis of Molecular Recognition Involving the Ribosome and a Voltage Gated K+ Channel

    Author : Martin Andér; Johan Åqvist; Lennart Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computer simulations; molecular dynamics; ligand binding; binding free energy; linear interaction energy; codon recognition; translation termination; release factor; voltage gated potassium ion channel; Kv1.5; Structural biology; Strukturbiologi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Over the last few decades, computer simulation techniques have been established as an essential tool for understanding biochemical processes. This thesis deals mainly with the application of free energy calculations to ribosomal complexes and a cardiac ion channel. READ MORE

  3. 23. Phase Behavior and Solution Properties of Aqueous Polyion-Surfactant Ion Systems

    Author : John Janiak; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer-surfactant association; complex salt; nonionic surfactant; poly acrylic acid ; poly methacrylic acid ; copolymer; polymeric counterion; decyl betainate; phase behavior; solubilization; mixed micelle; hydrolysis; release; liquid crystal; nanoparticles; thermosresponsive; C12E8; C12E5;

    Abstract : Polyelectrolytes and oppositely charged surfactants interact through attractive electrostatic forces, which in many cases lead to phase separation already at low total concentrations. During the past 10-15 years investigations of these systems have been simplified through the use of complex salts that consist of surfactants with polymeric counterions in a 1:1 charge stoichiometry (no excess simple counterions present). 4. 24. Signal Transduction of Glucagon Secretion

    Author : Elaine Vieira; Erik Gylfe; Lena Eliasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; secretion; glucagon; store-operated channels; calcium; diabetes; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a bihormonal disorder with hyperglycemia due to deficiency of insulin and hypersecretion of glucagon. To improve diabetes treatment it is important to clarify the signal transduction of glucagon secretion. READ MORE

  5. 25. Influenza neuraminidase assembly : Evolution of domain cooperativity

    Author : Diogo da Silveira Vieira da Silva; Robert Daniels; Ron Fouchier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Influenza; neuraminidase; assembly; transmembrane domain; evolution; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Influenza A virus (IAV) is one of the most common viruses circulating in the human population and is responsible for seasonal epidemics that affect millions of individuals worldwide. The need to develop new drugs and vaccines against IAVs led scientists to study the main IAV surface antigens hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). READ MORE
