  1. 1. Analysis of Transvascular Transport Phenomena in the glomerular and peritoneal microcirculation

    University dissertation from Lund University, Faculty of Medicine

    Author : CARL ÖBERG; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Peritoneal dialysis; glomerular filtration barrier; pore model; automated peritoneal dialysis APD ; three-pore model;

    Abstract : The current work is devoted entirely to the study of passive transport phenomena, or more specifically, the more simple diffusion, electric migration and filtration of solute matter and water over glomerular and peritoneal capillary walls. The driving forces behind such trans-capillary transport phenomena have long been assumed to be simple gradients of concentration, hydrostatic pressure and electric potential. READ MORE

  2. 2. Renal Dysfunction and Cardiovascular Disease

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Inga Soveri; Uppsala universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : Internal medicine; renal dysfunktion; cardiovascular disease; risk factor; mortality; endothelial dysfunction; arterial stiffness; oxidative stress; inflammation; renal transplantation; haemodialysis; general population; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Kidney dysfunction increases cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The mechanisms for the risk increase seem to involve a combination of traditional and non-traditional CVD risk factors.We studied renal dysfunction as CVD and mortality risk factor in middle-aged men free from diabetes and CVD. 3. 3. Haemodialysis Treatment Monitored On-line by Ultra Violet Absorbance

    University dissertation from Institutionen för medicin och vård

    Author : Fredrik Uhlin; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dialysis; Hemodialysis; Proteins; Metabolism; Renal dialysis; Ultraviolet spectrophotometry; Urea; Uremia; MEDICINE Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine Internal medicine Kidney diseases; MEDICIN Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin Invärtesmedicin Njursjukdomar;

    Abstract : This thesis describes and evaluates an optical method utilizing ultra violet (UV) absorbance for on-line monitoring of haemodialysis treatment. Increased efficiency of haemodialysis treatment is considered to correlate to decreased morbidity and mortality when urea clearance (Kt/V) is elevated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Impact of renal dysfunction on serum Prostate-Specific Antigen

    University dissertation from Department of Nephrology and Transplantation, Lund University

    Author : Laila Bruun; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urologi; hK2; Urology; intra-individual variation; elimination; peritoneal dialysis; renal dysfunction; kidney transplantation; hemodialysis; nefrologi; nephrology; PSA;

    Abstract : Measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in blood is an important tool in detection for prostate cancer. PSA occurs in several molecular forms in blood: mainly as a free form with a molecular mass of 28 kDa; and as PSA complexed to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin, complexed PSA, with a molecular mass of 90 kDa. 5. 5. Sleep Problems in Patients on Peritoneal Dialysis Prevalence, Effects on Daily Life and Evaluation of Non-Pharmacological Interventions

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Pia Yngman-Uhlin; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; Östergötlands Läns Landsting.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fatigue; insomnia; peritoneal dialysis; renal supportive care; sleep; self-care management; sleep hygiene; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Sleep problems affect a considerable number (49-86%) of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) treatment. Insomnia i.e. difficulties to initiate and/or maintain sleep or too early wakening, combined with daytime symptoms, seems to be the dominating problem. READ MORE
