  1. 1. Perceptual reorganization of vowels : Separating the linguistic and acoustic parts of the mismatch response

    Author : Ellen Marklund; Francisco Lacerda; Iris-Corinna Schwarz; Riitta Salmelin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; language acquisition; infants; speech perception; MMR; MMN; perceptual reorganization; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Abstract : During the first year of life, infants go from perceiving speech sounds primarily based on their acoustic characteristics, to perceiving speech sounds as belonging to speech sound categories relevant in their native language(s). The transition is apparent in that very young infants typically discriminate both native and non-native speech sound contrasts, whereas older infants show better discrimination for native contrasts and worse or no discrimination for non-native contrasts. 3. 3. The architecture of the aging brain : functional reorganization, structural changes, and the role of dopamine receptors

    Author : Robin Pedersen; Alireza Salami; Anna Rieckmann; Anders Wåhlin; Lars Nyberg; Roser Sala-Llonch; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; brain architecture; functional connectivity; dopamine; aging; cognition; memory; functional magnetic resonance imaging; positron emission tomography; graph theory; Laplacian eigenmapping; gradient;

    Abstract : Aging is associated with reorganization of functional brain architecture, potentially leading tocognitive decline in older age. However, the mechanisms responsible for alterations in functionalbrain architecture remain poorly understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sensorimotor reorganization in relation to hand function following unilateral brain lesions

    Author : Mominul Islam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Most activities of daily living require skillful use of our hands. Whatever the complexity of the task, our ability to perform any motor function largely relies on the integrity of the widely distributed corticomotor network. Damage to the central nervous system at any stage our life results in functional limitations to various extents. READ MORE
