  1. 1. Organization of centromere associated DNA in Chironomus pallidivittatus

    Author : Hong He; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetics; Chironomus.; pericentric DNA; repetitive DNA; centromere; transposable element; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Abstract : Centromeres have not yet been functionally defined in higher eu- karyotes, largely due to the huge amounts of repeated DNA in these regions of most species and difficulties of delimiting centromeric from pericentric regions. Also the latter have large quantities of mostly noncoding DNA, expressed cytologically as pericentric heterochromatin. READ MORE

  2. 2. Herpes Simplex Virus 1 DNA replication and its role in recombination and transcription

    Author : Ka-Wei Tang; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Herpes Simplex Virus 1; DNA replication; DNA recombination; Transcription;

    Abstract : Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) is one of nine different herpesvirus infecting man. They are all capable of establishing a life-long latent state following the primary infection. HSV-1 as well as other herpesviruses may reactivate from the latent state and give rise to a productive infection with clinical symptoms or asymptomatic shedding. READ MORE

  3. 3. Measurement of sensitivity to DNA damaging agents

    Author : Sherin T Mathew; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; intrinsic sensitivity; DNA damage; ionizing radiation; cell division;

    Abstract : There is a large inter-individual variation in intrinsic sensitivity in patients receiving treatment with DNA damaging agents. Cancer therapy exemplifies this problem where patients experience varying degree of normal tissue side effects in response to radiation or chemotherapy. READ MORE

  4. 4. DNA and protein interactions of mouse polyomavirus large T antigen

    Author : Ola Rönn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; T-antigen; DNA-binding; biosensor; enhancer; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : Polyomaviruses require dividing cells to multiply. The regulatory genes express proteins, theT-antigens, necessary for this to occur. Large T-antigen (LT), is a phosphoprotein withmultiple intrinsic activities, e.g. READ MORE

  5. 5. Nanostructured surfaces created by the interactions of dendrimers and oppositely charged amphiphiles

    Author : Marianna Yanez; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PAMAM; Surfactant; SDS; Lipid; Bilayer; Model Biomembrane; Nucleolipid; DLPA; DLPU; DNA; RNA; Neutron Reflectometry; Poly amidoamine ; Interface; Adsorption; Polyelectrolyte;

    Abstract : The research described in this thesis aims to understand the interactions between cationic poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers and small oppositely charged amphiphiles at the solid-liquid and air-liquid interfaces in relation to the bulk solution behavior. There is high interest in PAMAM dendrimers because they are well-defined polymers with a hierarchical architecture which makes them promising materials as nanocapsules and gene vectors. READ MORE
