  1. 6. Effect of Ischaemia-Reperfusion on Rabbit Kidney and Human Brain

    Author : Jagdish Shivlal Gondalia; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Free radicals; ischaemia-reperfusion; cell bioenergetics; NMR; ESR; carotid artery stenosis; endarterectomy; allopurinol; acetylcysteine; MMP-1; ICAM-1; MCP-9; oxLDL;

    Abstract : Free radicals are produced in various organs at ischaemia-reperfusion. The final stage in radical damage is lipid peroxidation. We have demonstrated previously that a lipid-soluble antioxidant improves restoration of bioenergetics in rabbit kidneys after ischaemia, as reflected in 31P spectrometry. READ MORE

  2. 7. Hyperglycemia in Experimental Cerebral Ischemia

    Author : Maria Molnar; Fredrik Lennmyr; Sten Lindahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; brain ischemia; cardiac arrest; cytokines; gene expression; glucose; hyperglycemia; microarray; oxidative stress; pigs; rats; reperfusion; resuscitation S100β; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : Cerebral ischemia is a life-threatening condition associated with a substantial morbidity and mortality. Hyperglycemia, a common coexisting phenomenon in both stroke and cardiac arrest (CA), may further aggravate ischemic brain injury. To date, the therapeutic possibilities are lim-ited and the search for new treatment modalities is warranted. READ MORE

  3. 8. Hyperglycemia and Focal Brain Ischemia : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Author : Nasim Farrokhnia; Andreas Terént; Fredrik Lennmyr; Elisabeth Björk; Henrik Hagberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal medicine; cerebrovascular disorders; diabetes mellitus; hyperglycemia; infarction; middle cerebral artery; ischemia; mitogen-activated protein kinases; mortality; rats; reactive oxygen species; reperfusion; signal transduction; therapeutics; Invärtesmedicin; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Diabetes is a major risk factor for ischemic stroke and is associated with increased mortality. Additionally, hyperglycemia, a common complication in acute stroke, is associated with poor outcome. READ MORE

  4. 9. Pharmacological interventions against myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury

    Author : Lars O Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Myocardial reperfusion injury; opioids; cyclosporine A;

    Abstract : Background: Ischaemic heart disease is the leading cause of death in the industrialised world. Although the concept of early restoration of coronary blood-flow constitutes an important factor to reduce the injury caused by myocardial ischaemia, reperfusion in itself can aggravate the damage to myocardial tissue, a phenomenon denoted myocardial reperfusion injury. 5. 10. Acute skeletal muscle ischemia and reperfusion in the rat : The role of leukocytes and the effect of hyperbaric oxygen on microcirculation and metabolism during reperfusion

    Author : Allan Sirsjö; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Much experimental work in recent years seems to indicate that reperfusion after long periods of ischemia can damage tissue. Suggested factors of importance are accumulation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) and production of reactive oxygen metabolites (ROMs). READ MORE
