  1. 1. Nitric oxide synthase in female reproductive and urinary organs: Hormonal regulation and functional significance

    Author : Jassim Al-Hijji; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; Obstetrics; estrogen; trophoblast; placenta; vagina; Nitric oxide; uterus; ovarian steroids; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was studied in cytosolic and particulate fractions in reproductive organs from rabbit (uterus and vagina) and rat (uterus, vagina and cervix). NOS was found predominantly in cytosolic fractions in all tissues and the activity of NOS in both fractions was highly Ca2+ dependent. READ MORE

  2. 2. Local Immune regulation in human pregnancy : with focus on decidual macrophages

    Author : Charlotte Gustafsson Lidström; Christina Ekerfelt; Eva Sverremark-Ekström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduction; placenta; leukocyte; ELISPOT; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : During pregnancy, the woman carries a fetus partly foreign to her immune system, because of the expression of paternal antigens. Despite this, the fetus is normally tolerated and not rejected, as is often the case with organs in allogeneic transplantations. READ MORE

  3. 3. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY

    Author : Karl Kristensen; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; Obstetrics; pregnancy; renal function; serum amyloid A protein; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; preeclampsia; beta-2 microglobulin; C-reactive protein; cystatin C; inflammation; placenta; beta trace protein; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 4. 4. Studies on Prostanoid Production in the Umbilicoplacental Circulation

    Author : Pia Saldeen; Malmö Reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Umbilical; Thromboxane; Pulsatility Index; Prostacyclin; Pregnancy; Placenta; Peroxidation; Growth restriction; Endoperoxides; Endothelium; Doppler; Diabetes; sexualitet; reproduktion; andrologi; gynekologi; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik;

    Abstract : The fetoplacental circulation is a low pressure system with a high vascular prostacyclin to thromboxane (Pc/Tx)synthesis ratio. In intrauterin growth restriction (IUGR) and diabetes the prostanoid balance may be altered. READ MORE

  5. 5. Monoamine transporters in female human reproduction

    Author : Barbara Bottalico; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PMAT; VMAT2; OCT; NET; in-situ hybridization histochemistry; decidualization; human endometrium; placenta; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Monoamine transporters; preeclampsia; histamine; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Abstract : The present study explored the gene and protein expression of the monoamine transporters in human endometrium throughout the menstrual cycle, in early decidua and in placentas from normal as well as preeclamptic pregnancies using in-situ hybridization, real time-PCR, immunohistochemistry and primary tissue cultures. Four distinguishable patterns were observed in the endometrium over the menstrual cycle: (1) epithelial expression of norepinephrine transporter (NET) mRNA, (2) Stromal co- expression of vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) and plasma membrane monoamine transporter (PMAT) mRNAs with maximal intensity in the proliferative phase; (3) increasing epithelial expression of VMAT2 mRNA with a maximum in the late secretory phase; (4) stromal expression of extra-neuronal monoamine transporter (EMT) mRNA with a peak in the early secretory phase.
