  1. 1. Sedimentological and Hydrological Investigation of Mosul Dam Reservoir

    Author : Issa E Issa; Ian Foster; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Area-storage capacity curves; Area reduction method; Bathymetric survey; Losing storage capacity; Mosul dam; Reservoir bottom morphology; Reservoir sedimentation; Sediment trap efficiency; Useful life of dam; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : Reservoir sedimentation is the main problem that directly affects the performance of dams due to the reduction in the storage capacity of their reservoirs. Monitoring the storage capacity of reservoirs is an important issue for the planners, designers and operators of the dams. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sediment Characteristics and Sedimentation Rate Estimation in the Dukan Reservoir

    Author : Rebwar Hassan; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sven Knutsson; Salahalddin S. Ali; Fadhil Ahmed Ameen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Area-storage-capacity curves; Bathymetric survey; Dukan dam; Land use; Reservoir sedimentation; Sediment trap efficiency; SWAT; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The Dukan Reservoir has been created from the construction of the Dukan Dam on the Lesser Zab River where it crosses the Khalakan Thrust Sheet (Khalakan Mountains) through a gorge 65 km northwest of Sulaimani and 295 km northeast of Baghdad. The Dukan Dam is a multi-purpose dam which was built from 1954 to 1959 to control the flooding of the Lesser Zab River, and to provide irrigation, hydroelectricity, and water storage. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effects of Watershed Dynamics on Water Reservoir Operation Planning : Considering the Dynamic Effects of Streamflow in Hydropower Operation

    Author : Nicholas Zmijewski; Anders Wörman; Andrea Bottacin-Busolin; Francesca Pianosi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reservoir operation; dispersion processes; wave diffusion; multi-objective operation; water resource management; discharge variability; power spectrum analysis; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Water reservoirs are used to regulate river discharge for a variety of reasons, such as flood mitigation, water availability for irrigation, municipal consumption and power production purposes. Recent efforts to increase the amount of renewable power production have seen an increase in intermittent climate-variable power production due to wind and solar power production. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dealing With Reservoir Effects in Human and Faunal Skeletal Remains : Understanding the radiocarbon dating of aquatic samples

    Author : Jack Dury; Gunilla Eriksson; Kerstin Lidén; Peter Jordan; Johannes van der Plicht; Philippa Ascough; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Radiocarbon Dating; Reservoir Effects; Bayesian; Modelling; Palaeodiet; Stable Isotopes; Skeletal Remains; Collagen; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Abstract : Archaeology relies on the ordering of past events to study cultural developments. This has traditionally been achieved by looking at the stratigraphic depths of materials relative to one another. In this way, chronologies of past technological progressions and stylistic changes can be built. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evolution of a silicic magma reservoir in the upper crust : Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland

    Author : Emma Rhodes; Steffi Burchardt; Abigail Barker; Charles F. Parker; Alexander Cruden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma; magma emplacement; magma reservoir; floor subsidence; piecemeal subsidence; granite; pluton; cap-rock; magma mingling; magma plumbing systems; volcanic and igneous plumbing systems; eruption; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : Field observations of extinct and exposed magma reservoirs shed light on processes operating in the roots of presently active volcanoes. The Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland is an example of a fossil shallow magma reservoir that fed eruptions. READ MORE
