1. Alcohol Use in Swedish Halls of Residence
Abstract : In the year 2000, the alcohol habits of 1460 Swedish university students living in residence halls were assessed. The students had a mean age of 23.8 years, and 64% were male. The results from this baseline assessment show that the mean AUDIT score (± sd) was 10. READ MORE

2. Physical activity, participation and self-rated health among older community-dwelling Icelanders : a population-based study
Abstract : Background: The main objective of this study was to investigate older people’s physical activity, their participation in various life situations, and their perceptions of their own health. This included an exploration of potential influences of urban versus rural residency on these outcomes, an evaluation of the measurement properties of a balance confidence scale, and an examination of the proposed usefulness of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as a conceptual framework to facilitate analysis and understanding of selected outcomes. 3. Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Kraft Lignin - The influence of capping agents and residence time
Abstract : In the context of exploring alternatives to replace fossil resources, lignin has been acknowledged as a renewable source of various aromatic compounds that have the potential of being precursors to chemicals as well as fuel additives. Originating from lignocellulosic biomass such as wood, lignin is an amorphous polymer with a high content of aromatic units and, in order to harness these units, it must be depolymerised. READ MORE

4. Proteins at interfaces : modelling of the residence time effect and experimental studies
Abstract : The residence time effect plays an important role in desorption phenomena at solid liquid interfaces. The objective of this work is to set up simple models to describe the dynamics of both adsorption and desorption of proteins on a solid surface. READ MORE

5. Coupled Hydrological and Microbiological Processes Controlling Denitrification in Constructed Wetlands
Abstract : Treatment wetlands play an important role in reducing nitrogen content in wastewater and agricultural run-off water. The main removal process is denitrification and the removal efficiency depends on the hydrological and microbiological features of the wetland, especially in terms of water residence times and denitrification rates.
