  1. 1. Urban Building Energy Modeling for Retrofit Scenarios : Development, Calibration, Validation and Implementation for Swedish Residential Buildings

    Author : Fatemeh Johari; Joakim Widén; Darren Robinson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban building energy modeling; Urban building energy retrofit; Urban energy system; Urban energy planning; Energy performance certificate; Energy efficiency; low-energy cities; Engineering Science with specialization in Civil Engineering and Built Environment; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot byggteknik och byggd miljö;

    Abstract : The necessity for an accelerated transition of urban energy systems and, in particular, the building sector toward energy efficiency and carbon neutrality poses new challenges to planning and retrofitting existing buildings. To cope with these challenges, so-called urban building energy models (UBEMs) have been introduced for quantifying the energy demand in the building sector, identifying the hot spots of energy use and suggesting scenarios for retrofitting the buildings. 2. 2. Low-energy buildings : energy use, indoor climate and market diffusion

    Author : Johannes Persson; Stefan Grönkvist; Svend Svendsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building energy simulations; energy efficiency gap; energy use; indoor climate; low-energy buildings;

    Abstract : Low-energy buildings have, in recent years, gained attention and moved towards a large-scale introduction in the residential sector. During this process, national and international criteria for energy use in buildings have become stricter and the European Union has through the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive imposed on member states to adapt their building regulations for ‘Nearly Zero Energy Buildings’, which by 2021 should be standard for new buildings. 3. 3. Energy Savings Using a Direct Current Distribution Network in a PV and Battery Equipped Residential Building

    Author : Patrik Ollas; Caroline Markusson; Mattias Persson; Torbjörn Thiringer; Jan-Olof Dalenbäck; RISE; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Direct-Current Distribution; Residential Buildings; Battery Energy Storage System; Battery Modeling; Solar Photovoltaic System; System Performance; Energy Efficiency; Energy Savings; PV Utilisation;

    Abstract : Energy from solar photovoltaic (PV) are generated as direct current (DC) and almost all of today’s electrical loads in residential buildings, household appliances and HVAC system (Heating Ventilation and Air-conditioning) are operated on DC. For a conventional alternating current (AC) distribution system this requires the need for multiple conversion steps before the final user-stage. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulating energy performance of residential buildings in cold climate : a study of indicators, criteria, and evaluation methods

    Author : Ingrid Allard Stolterman; Thomas Olofsson; Gireesh Nair; Folke Björk; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Building energy performance has been important in Fennoscandia ever since the early vernacular houses, to combat the cold climate. Due to EU directive 2010/31/EU on the energy performance of buildings (EPBD recast), building energy performance has become even more relevant in northern Europe the last decade. READ MORE

    Abstract : In the transition towards a sustainable energy system, building mounted solar photovoltaics (PV) have unique benefits; they require no additional land and the energy is generated directly at load centers. Within residential buildings, multi-family homes (MFH) are particularly interesting because of the economies of scale and their greater potential for emissions reductions. READ MORE
